“Great place to stay if you appreciate antiques”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stayed for 3 nights in late November, and had a wonderful stay. The rooms are just beautiful, filled with antiques, images, safe, TV, etc. Our room had a curved door, four poster bed, separate shower area and TV area. Problem is by staying here you find it hard to go to other hotels when you move on.
When we were at this hotel there were renovations on both sides of the hotel, and usually this would have put me off, but it did nit bother us that much, as the noise finished early.
Great food and service, Staff are very friendly.

Room Tip: We liked the room with the round door, but we looked at others and all seemed lovely.

Swimming in their refreshing pool, we were surrounded by high rise vanilla hotels. What a shame. To stay here is a reminder of what it must once have been like, kind of like a poorer version of the original Raffles in Singapore. Old ceiling fans, inlaid tiles, staircases with sweeping banisters, french double doors everywhere. The rooms are huge, with giant 4 poster beds, and modern fans installed beside the no longer working antiques. Breakfast was good, dinner was good. Old maps on the walls add to the charm, as do small balconies. Although some street noise filters through, no problem sleeping.

Do try and stay here, before it, too, is demolished for one more giant high rise hotel.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel which was booked for us as part of a personal tour. We stayed here for two nights. Basically, this is a very interesting hotel which has resulted from the conversion of a historic villa. Since it was not purpose-built as a hotel, some compromises have been necessary. For example, our room was on the top (third) floor, under the eaves. Thus, it was a very interesting space, quite large, but accessed by a rather narrow and steep stairway. Fortunately, the staff carried our luggage up and down, and I would not have wanted to attempt that myself. The room had all of the usual modern conveniences, of course.

The staff and management were always polite and helpful.

The breakfast was very nice; as it's a small hotel, there is not a buffet but choices such as eggs cooked to order, along with great fresh breads.

Location is close to the river, and one can stroll along the banks. It's also a fairly short walk into downtown Battambang, although there's not much reason to make the walk.

There are some rather large new hotels in Battambang which are likely to provide tough competition for La Villa.

We decided to visit again Cambodia and come back again at La Villa. The management has changed and we were very disapointed by hospitality. The new Manager French Lady has not been very welcoming.
Food is not like it was two years ago. The pool was not maintained. Shame becauce La Villa is a very nice place to stay.
Next time, we will try another place in Battambang.

Stayed at La Villa for 3 nights in November, a birthday gift from my cousin. The Villa is gorgeous, love the classic touches such as the old phone, grammaphone and old school ceiling fans and light switches. I especially love the old photos of somewhat "revealing" classic Khmer dancers. Our room was huge with a great bath tub, the staff was gracious and always smiling, Corinne, the manager was extremely helpful and sweet. She welcomed us like royalty making us feel very special yet not condescending. She also arranged for a tuktuk driver/Tourguide to take us around Battembang and made us discover beautiful places we probably would never find on our own. She is a gem. The food was excellent. If I had to find fault with this place it would be the noise coming from the construction next door. Nothing the owners here could do. All in all, I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who happens to stop off in Battambang, which by the way is worth a trip. To sum it up in one word, Bravo!

I stayed three nights with my husband in this charming hotel and loved it.
The atmosphere makes you think of Cambodia as it was before the war, with all its charm . Friendly staff, adorable french manager who is always present to make sure everything is OK and always good for a smiling remark and interacts as a head of family with the staff. A very pleasant atmosphere.
The food I had was excellent, a nice mix of french and Asian cuisine - breakfast was as you would get it in a french home - even the jam was homemade - yummy!
The location is an oasis - if you opt for a place in town near everything this is really the place to go!

La Villa's arresting setting by the river offers travelers a journey backwards in time and transports one to an earlier place. The Chinese architecture and well appointed rooms cradle a visitor in search of discriminating solace. I was struck by the attention to detail at breakfast, the hotel's informality and scrumptious cuisine that attracts non guests to this gem. One corner of the hotel featured a vintage Victrola, record player and ipod. As an antiques collector I reveled in the prized furnishings.

The staff is well trained and affable. La Villa's French female manager has inculcated a spirit of "family" among her staff and guests. I stayed in Room 7 near the pool - a lucky choice if one is able book early.

La Villa complements the incomparable overlooked charm of Battambang as travel destination in Cambodia. A rare combination not to be missed!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Book early to enjoy the infinite delights of popular room #7
