We had a double aircon room and it was probably the best room we have had in SE Asia on our backpackers budget. The staff were very friendly and I can highly recommend a motorcycle driver by the name of Smay - reception should be able to book him for you. He is only 21 and due to his studies only has limited amount of time to provide his services but he was not only a good driver but a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide. The only let down in the Hotel Royal is the roof top, the food is good but it has no atmosphere which is a shame as it has potential to be a seriously good bar/social area which would make it easier for travellers to meet.

Had a really nice stay in the Royal. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Managed to bargain down to $17 a night for a double room. Only let down was the restaurant. No atmosphere, limited options. Could have more potential.

It was extremely friendly, possibly the most enthusiastic staff I've ever had in a hotel. The rooms were OK, good value and I slept OK. I returned a second time and it was full, but they gave me a free lift to Asia hotel, their affiliated place (both hotels owned by siblings).

The only downside and the people hanging around reception who don't really have enough to do often and made me feel weird when I used to come home.

Room Tip: I found the top floor a tad warmer than I'd like (in fan).

Reception staff were really friendly and helpful.
Rooftop Restaurant had good food and nice atmosphere for chilling.
They helped us arrange a cooking class and a trip to Phare Ponleu Selpak(a school/circus for disadvantaged Cambodian children) both of which were really good.
Like most places, they can arrange bus tickets as well.
The room (a twin with fan and private bathroom on the 2nd floor) was spacious, clean and comfortable.
The hotel is quiet at night.
We got taken there by a tuk tuk driver called Dollar from the bus station and he took us out the next day for 5$ each. Turned out to be a great day, Dollar is a great guy and very interesting. He really taught us a lot about Cambodia.

Room Tip: Worth asking for a discount if you stay longer.

They picked me up at the river port and they took me straight to the hotel. Single room costed only 7 dollars, no breakfast, no hot shower but big, comfortable and clean. It has tv and private toilet and even when there is no hot shower it is so hot there that it's not such a big problem. They also gave me a small present :) A guide suggested me a private tour in motorbike around and it was very good. It's definetly recommended if you want to make a budget trip.

We stayed one night and only had the afternoon to sight see, they were able to organize a tuk tuk to take us out to the sights it was fantastic. Slept very well, spacious rooms. They organized a bus to Bangkok for us and then gave us a scarf as a goodbye gift

Cheap & slightly tacky hotel in city centre. Friendly reception staff. Large, airy rooms, bathrooms a bit smelly (no extractor fans!)
Most rooms have air-con. Beds and pillows were too hard.
There is a snack bar on the roof serving drinks, breakfast and khmer food, but we weren't all that impressed.
