“Home Sweet Home”
Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

We stayed 4 nights in my homestay and would highly recommend it!  We were made to feel so welcome by Kun and his family. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast that we ate in the gazebo and Kun and his family greeted us with fresh fruit an cold water every evening.
The room was lovely- very comfortable. Fresh towels and bedding were provided each day- we slept so well!
Although its a little bit out of town this is not a problem as we were as to use the free bikes(only 10 min cycle).
On the day we were leaving we were provided with water and cake for our bus journey- which was really nice and much appreciated! We would definitely stay at my homestay if in Battembang again.

Almost from the moment of booking we felt taken care of by Mr. Kun as he offered:
- Free pick-up from the boat we were arriving with from Battambang
- Overview of possible tours and sights to visit in the Battambang area

The pick-up turned out to be a lifesaver as the smiling face of our tuk tuk driver saved us from the hectic haggling finding place as soon as we disembarked in Battambang. The, somewhat eccentric, driver stayed with us for our time in Battambang. Providing information about the sights, singing some tunes of old love songs and taking us to a restaurant were we ordered a whole chicken prepared for us, incl. intestines (a recommended experience).

Returning to BMH at night Mr. Kun and his wife greeted us with fresh fruit and made sure everything was ok for the night and the next day, and asking when we wanted breakfast the next day.

Complimentary Khmer breakfast is served outside in the morning.

As for the guesthouse, it is a lovely, new and quiet place somewhat outside the town (one-dollar-ride with a tuk tuk). Rooms are spotlessly clean. Working aircon and wifi in the rooms. The shower did not have hot water, but this is hardly required considering the heat.

Mr. Kun is highly service minded, he provided thorough information about local sights and helped by booking our bus tickets for Phnom Penh (at discounted price!).

We had a great stay!

My wife and I stayed at Battambang My Homestay for two nights. I booked through their own website and an almost immediate confirmation, Mr Kun the owner of My Homestay answered all questions promptly and and even offered a few things we might like to do when we get there. We asked to be meet at the boat from Siem Reap and sure enough Mr Bun one of Mr Kun's tuktuk drivers was on hand to help us get through the rugby scrum of tuktuk/hotel touts and wisk us of to My Homestay.

We took up Mr Kun's offer and had an enjoyable day with Mr Bun and his tuktuk seeing the sights around Battambang including the bamboo railway.

My Homestay is a bit out of town but only $1.00/$1.50 by tuktuk, or you could borrow some bikes from Mr Kun. Being out of town also means it is quiet at night and you get a good nights sleep.

The rooms are new and of a very good quality with Mr Kun improving them as he gets money in, he talked to us about soon putting some shelves up in the bathroom above the sink for bits and bobs.

The overall impression is that My Homestay is a very safe and secure, clean and friendly place to stay, with no request being any problem for Mr Kun and his family.

As we were getting ready for the tuktuk to take us to the bus station for the 11 hour trip to Kampot, Mr Kun and his wife gave us a packed lunch for the trip, just another example of his generosity and kind spirit.

We're travelling for more than 6 months in Asia, and Battambang my homestay is probably the best homestay we've stayed in! We have booked 2 nights first and ended with 7 nights! We were both sick for 4 days and Mr.Kun and his family looked after us so well! We really enjoyed this place so much and would recommend it to everyone travelling to Battambang.
It's a 5 minutes drives from town, so it's a quiet area. You don't need earplugs :-)
Ms. Kun makes a delicious traditional Khmer breakfast in the morning and serves hot green tea. Even when we were sick (Cambodian Belly from a restaurant somewhere in town) the family was very concerned and helpfull. We felt like 'comming home'.
Mr. Kun arranged a tuktuk for us when we got better to see the Banan Temple and the killing caves. It was a very pleasant drive with driver Suka wich name means Happy!!
We cannot thank the family enough for their hospitality. They're amazing!

Info about the rooms and the homestay:
you have free wifi everywhere
you can rent bikes for free (it's 5 min to the city)
Mr.Kun is a bussinessman and familyman of everything if you want a motorbike or a car or a house, a job, voluntarywork, he can arrange it for you.
The rooms are very bright and cleaned every day! There's tootbrushes, shampoo, soap, towels, toiletpaper in the bathroom. There's a fridge in the aircon room and the fan room is very good as well.

If we ever come back to Cambodia, we'll stay here again!

Room Tip: Doesn't matter which room you choose, everything is good. But the fan rooms can be very hot duri...

There was absolutely no question of awarding Battambang My Homestay five stars!

I've stayed in over 40 different guest houses of varying quality throughout South East Asia over the last 8 months, and Battambang My Homestay is easily in the top 3.

Starting with the obvious and essential: the rooms are a very good size, clean, airy and almost brand new. The bed is very comfortable, the air conditioning is really effective (fan rooms are also available at a much lower price), you get a private bathroom, a table and two chairs, a flat-screen TV and a good Wi-Fi signal with decent internet speed. There is also a mini-fridge where you can keep your water / beers nicely chilled and a wardrobe with draws that are lockable.

Rooms are quiet, well away from the busy main streets, so you will get a peaceful night's sleep here. Breakfast is included, and you can borrow bicycles from the guest house for free. For all of this, the price is very reasonable.

However, what really makes Battambang My Homestay uniquely special are Mr. Kun (the owner) and his family. You'll be greeted with warm and genuine smiles from all of them, inlcuding his wife, son and parents. Mr. Kun loves to chat with his guests whenever the opportunity presents itself, and will gladly take the time to teach you many basic phrases that help you to get on well with locals. His wife is an excellent cook responsible for the delicious and varied freshly-prepared breakfasts that you receive every morning. On top of that, every evening the family present you with some fresh fruit bought from the local markets that is delicious every time!

Outside there are a couple of gazebos in which guests are encouraged to relax. Mr. Kun is keen to develop a welcoming community feel and help his visitors make connections with each other. There is absolutely no pressure in this regard, and you're entirely free to spend your leisure time in your own room, but its great to be able to sit outside, enjoying the fresh air in the shade, and maybe getting to know some of your fellow guests.

Battambang My Homestay also supports the local community, sending laundry to the local laundry shop just along the road and encouraging guests to buy their drinks and snacks from the local convenience shop less that a minute's walk away (rather than offering its own selection of drinks and snacks and depriving the neighbouring businesses of valuable custom).

The guest house is situated on a road that is predominantly home to local people, and they are very welcoming too. Getting into the centre of town takes nothing more than a 5-10 minute cycle ride on one of the free bikes provided by the guest house. Alternatively, Mr. Kun will always be happy to arrange a tuk-tuk to drive you into town for a very reasonable price (usually $1 each way at the time of writing this review).

I could go on, but I think you'll get the picture by now. This is a wonderful place to stay. Thank you to Mr. Kun and family for making our time in Battambang so memorable and comfortable.

Welcoming family-operated place, where they're prepared to go above and beyond to make sure you have a lovely stay.

The wonderful hospitality is matched by generous rooms, a nice little community vibe and a fleet of tuk tuk drivers on call to whip you off to wherever you wish to go.

Highly recommended.

The rooms are quite large, cosy and clean. The owners are very nice and helpful. Kun speaks a perfect English and is always happy to have a chat. The guesthouse is a bit outside of town, thus it is very calm and peaceful. There are free bikes available and the ride to the town center is easy and quick. The khmer breakfast is delicious, the best we had during our trip !
We spent 3 weeks around Cambodia and it is definitely one of our favorites !
