“Wonderful stay with Kun and his family”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

We found My Homestay by chance and I am very glad we did. We were picked up from the bus station by tuk tuk (free) and taken to My Homestay. Straight away I felt comfortable and relaxed. The rooms have everything you need - aircon, fridge, chairs and table, comfortable bed with soft linen, wardrobe and TV with many channels. There is no hot water - but that is not a problem in Cambodia! Every morning we were given breakfast - local khmer style and the 3 different dishes we had were delicious. At night when we returned we were given a plate of fruit - to eat then or to pop into your fridge for later. There are free bikes to ride into the town centre and it is an easy ride on good roads. Kun and his family are very welcoming and will provide anything you need. Kun went and bought our bus tickets so we could sleep in! Hopefully I can stay there again one day soon!

Mr. Kun, the owner of My Homestay, and his lovely family turned our stay in Cambodia into one of the most rewarding experiences in six months of traveling the world.

For the people looking for good value accommodation: look no further. Our brand new fan room was the cheapest we found so far (check his website for recent price, we paid 7 US Dollars a night), lovely decorated, had a flat screen cable television, great bed with the best mattress we found so far in Asia and a fine bathroom. The extras that were fabulous surprises included a great Khmer breakfast, cold water and those cute toothbrushes and mini-toothpaste you would only expect in a five-star hotel.

Furthermore, the Kun family shared with us fresh fruit and local treats, and offered an explanation to the customs concerning food and special celebrations in Cambodia. Aside from being the owner of My Homestay, mr. Kun turned out to be a teacher, knowing how to tell gripping background stories concerning the history and current situation of his country.

My Homestay is much different from many hotels in Cambodia: they often employ tuktuk drivers that approach tourists in an aggressive way, just to please their employer and make some money (can't blame them, but annoying all the same). As mr. Kun tries to improve the image of Cambodia, he works with local 'freelancers', trying to teach them how to do honest business so that they do not have to depend on overcharging tourists. He valued our feedback about our experiences.

We thank mr. Kun and his family for being a breath of fresh air in a country that is in dire need of honest people doing honest business. As low budget travelers all the extras made for an unforgettable experience. The topmost being mr. Kun's warm personality and priceless insights in Cambodia.

We spent our two nights in Battambang in this guesthouse and felt very comfortable in our room. It was new and very clean, and had almost all the amenities you can possibly expect: WiFi, a mini-fridge, AC, cable TV with plenty of movie and news channels, and a private bathroom. So the price for the room is pretty good. One minus is that there is no hot water, which was not a big issue in our case, though, as it was always very hot out.

The guesthouse is at 2km from the city centre. There are free bicycles, but the roads are not very bike-friendly as there can be much traffic in town and there's almost no light at night. The distance can be a difficulty, too, if you want to have something different than the guesthouse's fish-coconut milk noodle soup for breakfast, and you'll have to eat out for lunch and dinner as there is no restaurant at the guesthouse nor in its immediate vicinity. One plus was that there is free pick-up from your boat/bus on the day of your arrival. After that we rented a motorbike in the city centre (at Gecko) which seemed to be the best way to get around.

There were a few points we were a bit disappointed about: there was no motorbike rental at the guesthouse although the website indicates that it should be possible to rent at a low rate. Also, we felt a bit pressured by the owner and his tuk-tuk driver to explore the surroundings of Battambang by tuk-tuk and to take the driver as our gide, despite having been very clear from the beginning that we wanted to explore the area on our own by motorbike. In addition, we found it strange that the price for the tuk-tuk to the city centre the owner arranged for us doubled from one day to the next, with the same driver and for an even shorter distance. When we insisted on the previous price it was ok in the end, but the driver lost his friendliness of the previous day.

This said, the owner and his family are very hospitable and try their best to give a personal touch to your stay. However, do not expect a real homestay experience, as the premises have been designed as a typical guesthouse, with the family house far apart at the end of the two rows of rooms.

We understand that the guesthouse is still very new and that most of the above mentioned shortcomings can be easily improved, but as it is at the moment an average rating seems adequate.

is taking care of you, as if you are a part of his family. We´ve got every day a special Khmer breakfast and some nice treatments like banana or mango. Everything is still really new and clean.
Even though the city isn´t around the corner, you can have a free bicycle or you take a TukTuk. Kun has his own TukTuk-driver. He speaks english really well and knows a lot about Battambang and some really good places to go to, like an old Pepsi factory or local craftmen.
In the end, Kun also booked our bus and got the ticket for us. Really nice!

Thanks again to him and his family!

We will plan to stay 3 nights finally we spent 4 nights in Battambang My Homestay,
The bedroom is so clean that you can eat on the floor (it s unuasual in Cambodia, sometimes it's clean but there are bugs), it's smell so good. The bedroom is full equipated (frigde with cold water, a flat tv, hot water, AC, wifi..) for only 13 dollars (it s the price for an aircon's room)..The rooms were cleaned every day and the place is really quiet.
The local breakfast is so good.
When i booked i was little bit afraid about the distance from the town, but it'll be ok, My Homestay is only at 10 min by bike, 5 min by tuk tuk and 20 min by walk.
Mr Kun and a family are so nice, they took care about us like we are a member of their family. Mr Kun asks their customer how he can improve the quality of his accommodation..But it's already a great value!!! A big thanks to Mr Kun, the most nice owner in Cambodia!!!

We spent 3 nights at Battambang My Homestay. We were greeted at the bus station by a tuk tuk driver who took us straight to the guesthouse. The tuk tuk driver also took us around the sights of Battambang the following day. The bamboo train and the bat cave are highly recommended.

Mr Kun made us feel right at home sharing local food and drink with us including amazing breakfasts. The fish soup was really good. The rooms are comfy, clean (cleaned daily), had TV wifi and private bathroom. We stayed in a room with a fan not air con but air con is available if required.

The homestay is less than 5 minutes in a tuk tuk ($2) or a 20 minute walk from town but don't let that put you off staying here. You really will get more for you money here than in the centre of town. Use of push bikes is also free.

Room Tip: all rooms seemed good

The $7 price per night belies the sweet, pleasant and comfortable rooms on offer here. The owner provides great service, very personal, and free bicycles allow for trips to the town or around the neighbouring villages. Great for visits to Battambang or just R&R.
