“lovely place, lovely staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

a bit out of town but worth the effort. the rooms were clean, modern and comfortable. the staff were always pleasant and chatty. i've never stayed in a resort before and i found it hard to have everything taken care of in one place. accomm, food, tours, laundry etc. but i honestly think they offered a great service at reasonable prices (probably more than 'town' rates but worth it not to have to deal with all the hassle). fantastic pool! Thanks BTB resort.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in February, on our way to Sihanoukville, and loved it so much, we changed our plans so we could stay here again on our way back to Siem Reap.

What can I say about the resort that's not already been said?... not much! The resort is located about 10 minutes outside Battambang. This is great because it's very quiet. We were picked up from the bus by the resort tuk tuk driver, which made it really easy. When we arrived at the resort, our luggage was taken to our room, while we were offered a complimentary cocktail, while Jan (the owner) explained all about the resort and the area, and made recommendations for day trips.

It's a beautiful resort, very well laid out amongst lovely gardens, and with only 10 rooms. We stayed in a lakeside room, and this was very private and had it's own balcony/ terrace overlooking the lake. The room was gorgeous, very clean, spacious and furnished really well. We had a fridge, safe, tea/ coffee, complimentary water, and small mini-bar. The rooms don't have TVs and this is something we liked a lot! Who wants to go to Cambodia and watch TV?

The resort has a lovely bar, and a separate restaurant upstairs, but you can eat dinner in either, although breakfast & lunch is served downstairs. The bar serves lots of fresh juices, tea/coffee, beer, wine and cocktails. The mojitos are excellent!

We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the resort every day, so we got to sample many of the dishes on the menu, and they were all delicious. Our favourites were the mango chicken, chicken & cashew nuts, and the lamb (was on the specials). The resort grows it's own brown rice, and this was the best rice we had in Cambodia.

There's a beautiful salt water pool, but be careful because the tiles are very slippy. I know this because the first time I went into the pool, I slipped on the tiles, landed on my bum and had a huge bruise for days.

Service at Battambang is superb. Your hosts, Jan and Paris are very friendly and helpful. We did the Bamboo train/ Bat cave tour, the circus trip and booked the bus to Sihanoukville and Siem Reap, and this was all organised by the resort. They made everything very easy. Our tuk tuk driver was called Chin Chin and we would highly recommend him for any tour. He's very informative, and will go above and beyond to help you enjoy your trip. We have videos of both the Bamboo train and the Bat cave on our blog at www.allpackedup.com and would definitely recommend both of these.

One of the loveliest touches was when we returned to the resort for our second stay, and found a bottle of the wine that we always ordered, on our bed with a note saying "Thank you for choosing to return to Battambang".

Battambang resort has only been open for a year, and it's amazing what they have achieved in that time. It offers excellent value for money, but I think as more people find out about it, it will be fully booked for most of the year, so book it now!

Our top tip:
Once you get there, you will want to enjoy the resort so don't book too many activities!

Room Tip: Lakeside room

This place has received rave reviews. Without wanting to repeat; it is genuinely a delightfully serene and really thoughtfully created resort.

The resort and decor blends European luxury with traditional Cambodian decor.
Thoughtful (and unusual touches) include:
- really really beautiful gardens and small boating lake to explore. Great for budding photographers
- rooms, poolside, and public spaces thoughtfully and atmospherically lit
- spacious, well decorated and cosy room spaces
- super attentive staff (as you might expect from a family business)
- varied menu (best fish amok we tried) and great quality of ingredients

The only pedantic feedback notes we would add would be:
- that the wedding noise really can spoil the atmosphere but this isn't a fault of the hotel and they did all they could to deal with it.
- cocktail measures were a little small for the price.

All in all this represents real value for money and would be an excellent treat for couples and small groups. This would be top of the list of recommendations in Cambodia for us. You get the feeling you're experiencing the infancy of something great. Jan is one to watch for the future!

Room Tip: Choose a garden room!

We stayed here after a day biking and traveling. It was a great place to unwind and relax. Excellent service, bar and dinner menu. Breakfast choices are limited but food is good. Service at breakfast was a bit slow but we did want it early so that we could ride before it got too hot. The grounds are amazing, lovely pool. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

We like the hotel simply cos it's further away from the bustle of the town area. The surrounding gardens were a nice break from the built-up town. Our room was spacious, with a huge bathroom, lots of space for chilling out on the patio that faced a lake. Do bring mosquito-patches, cos you may get eaten by mozzies, but it is still tropical, so it's hard to avoid the mozzies. The hotel is quiet and you hardly hear anyone or see anyone else, apart from meal times at the restaurant. The staff were polite and extremely helpful. There is a hotel shuttle aka. a tuk tuk, they picked us up from town after dinner as well, so you know you're not caught out in the middle of town. Although we stayed 1 night in this hotel, the staff were wonderful, they arranged for a tuk tuk to take us around Battambang for the afternoon. I would recommend this place for anyone who want peace and quiet. Even if there were kids, you'd hardly hear them, cos the individual rooms are far apart enough to not here anyone else.

Stayed here for 2nights with my sister whilst travelling around Cambodia. The hotel had been strongly recommended by our parents who had stayed here not long after it had opened and it did not disappoint. The rooms were very new and nicely decorated, the owners were extremely helpful, but main attraction was the stunning pool which was a fantastic place to relax after a day of exploring the local area. Our only disappointment was that we could not stay longer as we would have loved to have spent more time here.

We loved our 2 weeks in Cambodia including 2 nights in The Battambang Resort in between staying in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Jan (the Dutch owner) and his staff were very welcoming and friendly and our garden room was spacious and comfy with a lovely wide bed. The pool area and garden are beautifully designed - the pool was a welcome relief from the heat. You get a free tuk tuk ride into Battambang for evening dinner and the second night we ate at the hotel - a lovely meal with decent wine at an affordable price. The hotel organised our taxi to Phnom Penh, lent us a laptop (free wifi in the hotel) and organised an afternoon tuk tuk tour of nearby sights with a most delightful driver and guide called "Happy". They also provide free pedal bikes - worth cycling through the nearby villages where everyone greets you with a smile and a wave. All in all I would definitely recommend this resort for 2 or 3 nights and Battambang is a good place to visit for an insight into the rural area of Cambodia.
