Bambu Battambang Hotel

It has been a pleasant stay at Bambu hotel for the past 3 nights. We stayed at a superior room, the interior is tastefully designed and comes with fresh fruit basket which is replenished everyday.

The owner, Pat, is very responsive and helpful during our email communication before booking our stay with Bambu. The receptionist is very helpful with our tours and always at our service when we need a Tuk Tuk to go out to town.
The Tuk Tuk drivers that Bambu Hotel engaged with are very knowledgeable and capable of explaining places in Battambang. We also booked transportation to Bangkok through the hotel.

At night the surrounding area can be a bit noisy, but the hotel does provide earplug incase there is any wedding or funerals ceremony going on.

Breakfast is okay, happy hour by the pool is the major highlight during our stay and if you don't want the hassle of going out for dinner, the restaurant serves good food too at a reasonable price.

Overall, Battambang trip has been really enjoyable and it was made possible by the good hospitality from Bambu hotel staff. Highly recommended.

I guess the ear-plugs on the night stand gave it away...
Battambang is one of the noisiest places I have ever been: there is a temple on the hilltop, which a couple of times a week has a ceremony beginning at 5am : so prepare to be woken up before dawn by dissonant music and very amplified recitals; this is not the kind of buddhist chanting you buy on a CD to accompany a meditation practice :-)
And don't expect to get to sleep early in the evening either - these people take their weddings and funerals seriously!
That being said, the city is a really interesting place to visit (we did a fabulous bicycling tour); it's off the beaten tourist track so you get a feel for how people actually live - and this is as good a hotel as you will get here.
The pool area is nicely decorated and the rooms are spacious and light; construction quality is not very impressive but it is clean and the air conditioning works. It's obviously not a 5 star hotel, but then neither is the pricing.
The food in the restaurant is good but breakfast is a bit disappointing; in particular, there was no fresh juice (Battambang is known for wonderful oranges). The bacon was excellent though and they will cook you fresh eggs to order.
I was very surprised to read some of the negative comments around the service, as I found the owner to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Stayed here two nights on tour of Cambodia. We had a room at first floor level overlooking the pool. The room was light and airy with a balcony that you could sit out on. The style of the hotel is contemporary colonial. The pool is absolutely perfect. Breakfast was buffet style with the chef doing eggs how you like them. You could sit inside or on the terrace. We also had a light lunch and my salad nicoise was fresh and delicious. It is10 minutes or so walk from the hotel to the centre of town. Cocktails at the bar were great and very good value at happy hour. The only downside is that it can be affected by noise from the surrounding area including cockerels but mostly music. The hotel provides ear plugs (which I did not use) and in the evening it didn't stop me sleeping but did wake me in the morning (I am a light sleeper). The bed was comfortable and the wet room style bathroom clean with plenty of hot water. Aircon worked efficiently.

Room Tip: It might be that rooms to the rear will be quieter.

We stayed here for two nights, while it was not our first choice I am very glad we stayed here instead. Easy walking distance to the town centre, excellent breakfast, great pool. All the staff very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: First floor deluxe superior room overlooking pool a good option.

My husband and I chose the Bambu Hotel after reading the reports on TA. We didn't think the photos of the pool did it justice but the reports raved about it, and they were right. We had three fabulous nights in a first floor room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The room had a ceiling fan and air conditioner, safe and fridge and an enormous bathroom which has to be seen to be believed. The shower had a bench seat in it!!

The room had shutters on either side that opened out and allowed a cross-breeze and some neighbourhood views. We had a thunderstorm one afternoon and it was great to sit on the balcony and watch the downpour.

The happy hour was fantastic and the cocktails were the best we've had in Cambodia, especially the pina coladas and the passionfruit ones! The pool was sparkling clean and there is an outdoor shower by the pool.

The dining room is by the pool and the bar, and the shutters are open so it looks over the pool, and is a very pleasant spot to have a meal. The breakfasts consisted of fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage and tomato cooked to order, with fresh juice and tea and coffee, toast and jam.

As other reviewers have said, the hotel is a bit away from the main town, being on the other side of the river, but it's only a short tuk tuk ride away and a very pleasant spot to stay.

The staff are great and looked after us really well. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you don't mind a short flight of stairs, choose a first floor room overlooking the pool.

This hotel may be a little off the main streets of Battambang but it is exceptionnal. The room was spacious with a little terrasse. The staff is attentive to details and very helpful. And that salt-water pool! Lovely!

We stayed here for 2 nights and from the time we walked in we knew we had the right place. The staff are friendly and helpful , the food was great at realistic prices and room we had was fairly big with a large verandah. The air conditioner and fan cooled the room quite well. Best thing is the beautiful pool to cool down in after a hard day. While in Battambang I recommend a visit to the Slarkram School where you get to help the children with their English. Very rewarding. Will definitely be back.
