“Wonderful stay and unforgettable cultural tour”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We spent two nights at Sam and Anelyse's house and did a one-day tour with Sam in December 2011. The whole stay was the nicest part of our trip. The house is located in a nice residential area of Battambang. The room and the bathrooms are clean. Sam and Anelyse made the stay wonderful. They treated us like we are friends. They provided banana on the dining tables. We enjoyed dinner from the market together. The food is really great. In the morning, we sat outside around a cozy table to enjoy the great breakfast, which includes bread, homemade jam and fresh fruits.

The trip was very special. We spent one day with Sam and the other two families. We visited the rural area on both tuk-tuk and motorcycle. We visited several traditional makers, such as, rice paper, boat makers, mushroom farmer, etc. We also saw rice fields and great view over the fields in the area. The whole trip is non-touristic (although we are still tourists :P). The people we met on the trip were very friendly. It's very nice to have the opportunity to experience the real rural Cambodia. Highly recommended.

When we arrived Battambang, Sam and Anelyse sent a tuk-tuk to pick us up from the bus station. The tuk-tuk also took us to the boat that we were taking to Siem Reap.

We have been spending 4 days with Sam and Anelyse, wonderful stay in this modest guest house in the middle of Battambang.
2 bathrooms for 4 rooms, with fan or air con, we had one with fan clean and not noisy at all, nice and plentyful breakfast with home made marmalade, (Sam goes to the market each morning you can come with him)
Sarom (Sam) is a Khmer who had been living in France and who decided to go back to Cambodia, with a projet: explain the culture Khmer to the tourists.
Each day you will know a little bit more about artisans and craft of the area in tuk tuk or in motorbike if you like it
We all enjoy, wondeful memories

We got this address from a friend and we were so positively surprised! The house is great and amazingly clean, great service, great breakfast... Everything is perfect. This is what you can call a home stay even if they are not local people! Anelyse and Sarom are dedicated to their guests. We loved it!
They propose different kind of tours around Battamang and the only thing I can say is: Go for it! You will go outside of the touristic path and touristic attraction. You will meet real Cambodian people and see tremendous things.

Thank you so much Anelyse and Sarom!

We got there thanks to advice from forums, and do not regret it!
The guesthouse is located at about 5min (with a motorcycle) from the center in a pretty quiet area, without much noise at night. Rooms have comfortable and long (good of you're tall like me) beds, free wifi, and many options are available (if you prefer AC or fan...)
Breakfast is enjoyable with local fresh fruits and rice waffles, as well as local jams (we got banana and pineapple, both excellent)
But the best is definitely the tours you can do with Sam. We did a tuktuk visit of the area to discover local occupations (how to cook rice cakes and rice sheets, how to build a local boat......) on the first day, and a long motorcycle trip (7h) on the second, enjoying the beautiful landscapes, tasty local food, as well as his own "secret" places, which are definitely worth visiting. We'll let Sam show it to you ,-)

We went to "Chez Sam" by change and we were not disappointed. Sam and his lovely wife, Anelyse, are very welcoming and warm. The place is close to the center.

What makes it so special is definitely the personality of the hosts. Sam is franco-cambodian so he knows the culture perfectly well.

Thanks to them, we felt like we had a proper glimpse of the place and of the culture. Samrom took every opportunity to make us discover and understand his country.

We could not imagine that there were so many beautiful places around Battambang. We definitely recommand the guided tour with Sam (we took the motorbike tour), it was just great and we had access to places usually not seen by tourists.

We also have a fond memory of Anelyse's home-made marmelade.

It is a unique concept and we will definitely go again.

Chez Sam is just on the outskirts of the City. Sarom arranged a tuk tuk driver to meet us from the Siem Reap boat. The guesthouse has 3 rooms which have fans, but only one has A/C too. The room was very clean with a large comfortable, solid wood bed. The house is filled with wonderful wooden furniture. The shared bathroom was the only downside. Sarom and his lovely wife Anelyse make you very welcome with nothing being too much trouble. Eating out, tuk tuk drivers and even home delivered food is just a call away and they arrange this for you. Sarom gave us a wonderful insight into Khmer life with his one day tour: Half the day was visiting local 'artisan' work in local villages and the second half was visiting the wonderful countryside around, with the final part being a wonderful surprise, but I won't spoil this for you by telling you what! Altogether a wonderful place to stay and I'd recommend this to anyone visiting this area.

My partner and i stayed at "chez Sam " guest House and really loved the family ambiance in their lovely home. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but our last minute request could not be fullfield as their 3 rooms guesthouse was already fully booked for the first night. Anyway Sam the cambodian english and french's speaking guide came to pick us in our hotel in order to go with him in a 10 hours tour. We saw cambodian working, beautiful scenery,.... It was a lovely day learning how cambodian people are leaving. We were lucky to spend our 2nde night in battambang inthe beautiful guest house Sam runs with his wife annelyse. It s nothing like a hotel more like a bed and breakfast where everyone share breakfast together. It cost us 66 euros room and breakfast included the one day tour. Do not be frightened by the price it does worth it we have learnt a lot from this tour. We took the tour with the tuk tuk as neither of us knew how to ride a bike but if you feel confident enough, sam gives a small bike lesson in order for anyone to try. We were not brave enough.... It was the best experience we had in cambodia so far.
