“Nice place, good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

We had a VIP double room booked. We arrived (free pick-up from the bus station) and couldn't believe how opulent and impressive this place was. Our room was fabulous. The pool was superb with a nice relaxation area right next to it. There was an elevator which made lugging our big bags up really easy. Breakfast (extra) was quite good. We were somewhat disappointed that the restaurant was closed in the evenings so we had to go elsewhere for our dinners but found a couple of gems nearby (Gecko Cafe, Nary Kitchen). We stayed 3 nights and had one tuk tuk driver for all our tours. He picked us up at the bus station initially (free), a return trip to the circus with 2 1/2 hour wait ($5), took us on a full day tour of the south of Battambang (8.30 am - 7.15 pm) - for $15 (we gave him $20), a half day tour of the north of Battambang (8.30 am - 1.00 pm) for $10 and an early morning transfer to the boat station ($5). We really enjoyed our time in Battambang thanks mainly to Mr Jack, one of the tuk tuk drivers who work in with Seng Hout. We had a good long chat with Mr Seng (the owner) who has a school behind the hotel and has lots to tell about it, but even more about his growing up in Khmer Rouge times. Mr Jack had plenty to show us and tell us too.
Battambang - must visit.
Seng Hout - great hotel choice.
Mr Jack - top tuk tuk man.
Nary Kitchen Cooking School - don't miss it
Battambang to Siem Reap by boat (or SR - BB) - excellent

Good location close to the market.

Hotel very clean, bathroom a little dated.

The pool was ok, although not too many seats/loungers - and in the afternoon it's in shade. The tiles in the pool needed a bit of a clean.

Breakfast not included - ate breakfast twice and although edible, couldn't rave about it. There are plenty of eateries nearby which served good, inexpensive breakfasts.

Wifi worked very well.

The hotel staff had radios to communicate with each other, and I was able to hear these from my bed from about 6.30am each morning - not very good when you're hoping for a lie in.

Looked forward to a drink on the roof top - but it wasn't operating as a bar.

The hotel did not pressure you into buying any trips/tours, but we were able to book bus and circus tickets through reception.

The hotel sent a tuk tuk driver to take us from the bus to the hotel for free - this was a very pleasant surprise, particularly as there are lots of people trying to sell you a hotel when you get off the bus in Battambang. The tuk tuk driver - Kim - was pleasant and we booked a day tour with him. Kim was unable to take us on our tour, but one of his many 'brothers' took us out for the day and it was good. There are tuk tuk drivers are in the hotel lobby, but they aren't pushy.

Overall, this is a nice enough hotel, but we paid more than we have elsewhere in this part of the world and didn't get so much more. I think the earlier reviews resulted in us expecting a bit more than we got.

After reading some enthusiastic descriptions in the forum we tried this hotel with great expectations. What to say.. Nothing special actually. We spent 30usd for a room: clean, with AC, pool view but the pool was 2 floors below. Pool is ok even if the shadow comes early in the afternoon. There is a roof terrace but was not used (almost abandoned). Breakfast not included.
Very good location, that's a plus, close to the market.
Our tuk tuk driver was funny and polite, went around for 2 days.

The Seng Hout is in a great location just being a short walk to the local markets and centre of town. We stayed in one of the new rooms on the 4th floor and they are very comfortable. The rooms were very clean. The swimming pool on the 3rd floor was great after a day out sightseeing. The only two cons I can think of is that there are no extra towels given for the pool so your bath towel soon becomes sopping wet (the towels are very thin). The second issue was the free wifi. Many times it was difficult to log in or the wifi was down. Maybe just teething problems as staff were very eager to fix when asked. Everything else was a pro - staff happy to book bus tickets and the hotel have a list of tuk tuk drivers with their photos and contact details for guest to use for tours and trips.

The Seng Hout has a great location. It is right in the middle of Central Battambang by the Central Market. The price was also right at $15 for a twin room with two beds. The room was clean, but the towels were rather scratchy. No breakfast is included, but there is a cafe in the lobby and many others close by. I found this hotel when one of their tuk tuk found me at the bus station. The hotel has a group of tuk tuk drivers with an advertisement on the back oh their tuk tuk. Saro was our driver and we also arranged transportation with him to Phnom Sampeau and the Bamboo Train with him. He was very nice.

Stayed I. A family room that consisted of a king bed and a single for $20 per night. Staff were very friendly and helpful as we're the regular tuk tuk drivers who were happy to ring us taxis and give us advice on local food, prices etc. the rooms are very clean and have air conditioning. The beds are foam but still comedy enough. The bathroom is one level with a shower curtain so the floor does get wet so make sure you don't leave anything. Outdoor pool great for a swim at the end of the day. Rooftop cafe was only, some chairs- no cafe but I am sure you could ask downstairs cafe for service. Highly recommended

Room Tip: There is a lift so any room is fine. I believe some have been renovated so ask for one of those
