“Liked the Mexican option!”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

This place is very busy with travellers. It has indoor and outdoor seating and an open kitchen so you can see whats going on.. and its buzzing with ladies cooking up a storm. I had the Mexican Chicken which was great.. a friend of mine enjoyed the flavour of it so much that he ordered it the next day for lunch.. I unfortunately lucked out when i ordered the beef nachos for lunch.. which mainly tasted of mexican beans. The prices were on par with what we paid elsewhere in Battambang.. My friend didn't enjoy the Cambodian Coconut chicken as it was overpowered with shredded coconut on top and unfortunately my other friend wasn't too fussed with the chicken kebab with polenta.

“Eclectic menu, and well prepared food”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We happened upon the Gecko Cafe after an unfortunate visit to La Villa. After having a look at the well stocked gift shop downstairs, we ventured up the rickety stair case (more like a ladder) to the restaurant. We were greeted by three exuberant, smiling women who seemed to be having a whale of a time. There exuberance only enhanced our dining experience! The nmenu is very exlectic covering Khmer, Mexican, Italian and generic Western. The mini tacos are a must as are the wraps. Of the local dishes the pumpkin and coconut curry (more like a soup) was the highlight.

This is probably the most popular place in town, and I well understand why.

“Ok but slightly price for what it is”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

Just before you start moaning about why I think it is expensive, I am writing this from a backpacker perspective. We went hoping for good food that is price competitive with other cafes in the local area. The food is ok, not much to write home about, the drinks are pricey and I know you can get the same stuff (but with more choice) elsewhere for much cheaper. Its a nice setting and the staff are attentive, and I love the way they bring the bill with pots so you you can tip the chef and tip the waiting staff........ I won't be going back purely for getting better food elsewhere

“Best fruit shakes in town....”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Your fun starts at the Gecko with climbing the steep stairs to reach the 1st floor cafe. But don't let the stairs put you off......it's well worth the climb!!!! The staff are friendly and helpful and all speak English very well. The selection of food is amazing and delicious. You must try fruit shakes, chilled and tasty....just what you need after a hot day of sightseeing. Enjoy your meal as the sun is setting and watching the street life around the cafe come to life. Don't miss the Gecko Cafe while in Battambang!!!

“Cute, English-speaking girls”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Staffed by sweet, English-speaking girls, this cafe seemed to be popular with tourists. It serves western and Khmer fare. My husband enjoyed his Khmer dish of fish with lime sauce. Mine was orange ginger chicken balls, which would have tasted much better if they had been hot (as in temperature). It must have been prepared before my husband's fish and turned cold before they were served to us at the same time.
At the end of the meal, the bill came with two pots for tips -- one for the serving staff, the other for the cooks. It can be a bit off-putting but bearing in mind this is a poor country where workers are paid tippance, it's not a bad practice.
