“A fine Eco lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

Just newly renovated this is in fact a nice little hotel with a very good level of comfort. Managed by a Swiss french speaking team the level of service is very good and advice excellent. The restaurant that was there before the renovation of the lodge is very good, not the best service arround though. As the hotel is near the center it is easy to find alternative places to have a meal. The breakfast was simply the best we had in Myanmar.
The rooms are modern, spacious and very clean. The hotel is not located on the lake itself but in the Nyaungshwe city centre which is better than beeing locked in a lake hotel if you want to move around. It is nevertheless very near the canal and it will take you by boat around 15min to reach the lake for your visits. Only thing. Do not expect to sleep very late as the humming noise of the boats passing by stops at arround 8 PM and starts again around 5 AM (was not a problem for us because we always started our excursions early). If you are very sensitive to noise it can be an issue, Ask for a room not too close to the boating area.
Overall a very recommandable place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not too close from the canal. The boats passing by are quite noisy during daytime.

When planning the whole trip, I was not sure which hotel to select in Nyaung Shwe, but in the end I chose this hotel even though I was a bit apprehensive about the fact that it was on the canal and the noise could be a problem. One has to bite the bullet and go for it.
When we arrived at Viewpoint, a member of the family was so amazed with the hotel. The remark was “Can a place like this exist in Myanmar”? Well it does - with a few blemishes, but all in all, it is a wonderful hotel, well thought through with such so much detail, such as the taps in the toilet by reception.

I don’t remember the bungalows/chalets being noisy at all during our stay. It was lovely to wake up in the morning to see the ducks in the canal waiting to be fed. The chalets we stayed in were large units. Each unit has a verandah and it was so peaceful sitting outside watching the local people walk by. The shower rooms were tastefully decorated and we were so taken with the different variety of items supplied such as the face paste locals use, shampoo bark and the soap. We were so impressed with the soap that we bought a few bars when we saw them in Indein market.

The breakfast was great. Freshly made fruit juices, fresh fruit salad, fresh rolls, brioche, yoghurt, honey, some small tapas and cooked breakfast to order. The coffee was excellent and we even bought some to take back home.

The staff were so great, we could see they were really into customer care. When one of the family fell ill, the staff bent over backwards to assist and make his stay comfortable.

The only negatives are – there is no A/C and I am not sure how it would be in the hot season. There isn’t a fridge but we got around that by getting a load of ice daily for our drinks and the staff were all very obliging. Boris Granges, was indeed an excellent host and we were very comfortable staying there. I was only disappointed I did not manage to eat in the restaurant

Whilst this has been a lovely restaurant for a while, the new accommodation units eco friendly and are truly beautiful. Whilst not directly on the lake, the location makes being able to explore the area easy, the service is great and the food remains outstanding.

Room Tip: Great choice if you like wonderful food, and boutique accommodation

As a proffesional traveller and an experienced tour guide I have - for this excellentplace - only warm and hearty words, after my staying here in last october (2012).
Management by Boris Granges gives the right shape to every aspect. The efficent staff (English and French speaking) adds to the excellency of this hotel

To us this was a very quirky and uneven place, what with funky (odd) furniture, two well appointed slate bathrooms(!... one which the shower didn’t work in), no openable screened windows and no A/C, the best mosquito net we've encountered in all of SE Asia, fun electronic music in the upper floor open air restaurant and, decent though quirkily presented food — Thai tapas style.

The singular issue with the place for us was its immediate proximity to the river, with all of the noise of the longboat motors (running from 4:30am to 10:00pm) -- an experience that no room is spared from. Each villa unit has a balcony that looked out onto the waters the villas are built upon -- all except two units, one of which we occupied -- #106 - 108. These balconies looked directly out onto the road adjoining the river, with absolutely no relief from the boat noises passing by only 20 meters away.

While this is a decent place with no more than decent food — hardly the gourmet experience we've read others mention... in our opinion, we paid only $5 less than what we paid for a truly noteworthy resort on Inle Lake which had so much more to offer-- suggesting to us that the rate here was definitely over priced. We came across at least one other interesting looking, more quietly located hotel a few streets away and so would recommend travellers do their Tripadvisor homework before booking a room in Nuang Shwe.

Room Tip: Avoid the two "villas" immediately beside the main hotel building with balconies which fac...

We liked this hotel so much we went back after our stay on the lake. Compared of what one get on the overpriced hotels on Inle Lake, View Point Lodge was a surprisingly affordable option. We did travel off-season though and probably got a very good walk-in rate.
Hotel is very clean, staff extremly friendly and helpfull, food is excellent (easily the best breakfast we had in entire Myanmar!).

only negative: can be loud in the morning with all the boat noice from the river. If you want to sleep-in... this hotel might not suit you.

This place is a nice 'escape' from local basic life, as a westerner it is nice to come home after a day of exploring Myanmar in a luxurious room. There was no airco though. Still I find it impressive you get such a place built in today's Nyaungshwe.

Calling the restaurant Fine Cuisine is nonsense. The food was quite poor and very salty. Even our Myanmarese friend would not eat the Shan dishes, that says enough.

The hotel is definately expensive for Myanmarese standards, but pretty mainstream for the West. So make your pick.
