Very nice hotel with perfect location. From the balcony you can see the fortress. We booked a double room but got the apartment at the same price.
Very good value for the money and the receptionist was very calm and polite.
we had half-board, the dinner was great, drinks are not included but are cheap (1 Euro for a beer).
The restaurant is at the top floor and from there you have a nice scenic view over the fortress and the hills.

What could be improved?
- the continental breakfast was a little bit poor
- the bathroom seems a little bit old and narrow

As a conclusion, I recommend this hotel !

As an overall experience the hotel does fine with a good location, comfortable rooms and breakfast and dinner included. It's when you look at each of the items separately that the little things take away from the overall experience.

Checking in was a bit of a hassle as I made the reservation on booking.com when I arrived in Veliko Tarnovo then drove dirrectly to the hotel, arriving only 10 minutes later. It took 2 or 3 phone calls and a number of exasperated looks through their reservation book before they finally found the reservation and let me check in, to what turned out to be a half full hotel. I tried to get the wifi password from the receptionist to show her my booking confirmation but she said, in limited English, the password was only for the rooms and not for the lobby area.

The hotel is in really good condition throughout with nice tiled floors and no signs of wear or tear. There is an elevator and a nice wide stairwell to access each floor. The rooms are on 2 levels above the lobby with the restaurant on the top floor with panoramic views across the valley and the citadel. The hotel is situated directly next to the main road for traffic coming into town and in the mornings there is a considerable amount of traffic.

The first level of rooms is just above street level and passerby's can look directly into the rooms. There was a patio door that opened to a very (very) narrow balcony and windows with somewhat of a view across the street. Even with the windows and door closed the road noise was still disturbing. The second level of rooms provided a better view and a little quieter as there were only windows and not the patio door like the first floor.

The rooms had twin beds pushed together to appear like a larger bed, even though the reservation I had called for one large double bed the receptionist claimed that there were no large double beds, only twin beds. The mattresses were comfortable and extra bedding was available in the cabinet. There were a couple of outlets available to recharge batteries and plug in electronics. There was also a small writing desk and mini fridge. The bathrooms were in good shape with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The shower doors did not meet well in both rooms that I had but it was not a real problem with what water did spray out as there was a floor drain to collect it.

The wifi did not work on the first floor of rooms and was difficult to catch a signal in the dining room if you sat further from the door. Fortunately the second floor wifi signal was strong allowing access to wifi from the first floor room if you stood next to the door. I asked if the receptionist could try resetting the router for the first floor to see if that would work to which she suggested sitting in the lobby and using wifi there instead.

Having meals in the hotel was nice in that you did not have to venture out to find a restaurant. Dinner offered a choice of salads, a choice of 3 different soups and a choice of one entree or omelette from five or six options. The food was a little institutional but tasted fine and was filling. Drinks were all extra with a selection of wines, sodas, juices and water. Breakfast was a choice of 5 or 6 options and a cup of coffee or tea. Other drinks were extra and refills were extra.

A few days after staying there you kind of forget about the little things and remember it as an overall pleasant stay, but the little things were still there and some improvement could be done.

The Tsaravets fortress and Cathedral Rozhdestvo were within a few minutes walk of the hotel with other sites in the old town a bit further away. The central part of town was a 15 minute walk but the old town shopping and sightseeing was all within 10 minutes walking.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms provided better views, less road noise and more privacy. When I was there the wi...

the minotel rashev is in a fabulous position opposite the old fortress in veliko tarnovo. the rooms are a little out dated and could do with a wee bit of TLC but they are very clean & spacious and the staff are great , they are so friendly and helpful and they speak English too. the food is very good and the half board option is excellent value for money. if you don't mind a little walk the centre is about 10 minutes by foot. we would definatly go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: the corner rooms are bigger and well worth asking for

The location is great, right on the river in the heart of Veliko Tarnovo. The rooms have AC and wi-fi. Unfortunately, that's where the pros end. Although parking is advertised as one of the facilities, do not be fooled. The parking area is a small dirt patch next to the hotel, big enough for barely 5-6 cars. That would be fine, I guess, if the hotel made any effort to reserve the spots for its patrons. It doesn't. Any tourist going to Tsarevets or the Samovodska Charshiya could just park there. Worse, the staff of Minotel Rashev does not care. When we arrived and realized that there was no place to park our car, we naturally went to the front desk to ask for advice on where to find parking. The clerk as much as told us that that was not her problem. Just drive around until you find a spot, she said. Couldn't even point us in the right direction. The rooms were drab and sticky. One had moldy-looking patches on the wall. The showers' glass partitions didn't fit well, which resulted in flooding of the bathroom floor. The unimpressive breakfast (included in the price of the room) was gruffly served and--get ready for that one!--did not include the drinks, so we had to pay for our coffee and juice separately. As a final touch, the morning clerk did not know how to swipe a credit card.

Great location next to citadel, nice room, very cheap for services (HB included). A nice cheap medieval city with restaurants and bars where You can enjoy a good meal and walk. The citadel is amazing and I recommend for everyone to visit old city who's on the way to Greece from Romania or other purpuses.

Room Tip: with view to Citadel

This place is well located for the main town and the Tsarevets Fortress. However, the rooms are very basic and the man on reception when we checked in, although friendly, spoke no English which is unusual. If you are operating on a budget then this is a very good choice as you also get a decent breakfast out of it. One thing that was odd was the shower seemed to be designed to flood the bathroom with water pouring all over the floor before eventually draining through a grate in the floor.

The service was very friendly (the breakfast lady might seem a bit unfriendly at first but she is really nice once she warms to you ;-) The price for two people including breakfast and dinner is really good. Very nice view from the restaurant and also from the room (all rooms have the same nice view, as all windows look out towards the castle/monastry)
Breakfast and dinner was not great but for the price it was ok. Furthermore the shower base had a hole in the floor, but we noticed they slowly replaced them room by room.

Room Tip: all rooms have a great view
