I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. Was going for Rila but resd reviews and spoke to people definately right choice. Fantastic location , such wonderful freindly staff, food was always same in mornings but good variety so no issues, evening meal always varied and delicious, although not always the hottest, definitely nothing undercooked, we expected to eat out but never did, no way was this necessary. Forget what you hear about Bulgarians being cold, not here. We made full use of the spa and massage etc very good. We hired our skis and took private lessons from hotel ski school, very affordable. Our room overlooked slopes which were floodlit in evening, so perfect.
As you walk around you are badgered to go into bars and restaurants which is annoying if you let it be but we just smiled and said no thanks ... Definitely lap dancing etc but we wer back in hotel by 10 pm and were never bothered as a family, later than this cannot comment. Certainly we will go again.
Back to hotel, it was my birthday when we went, hotel sent champagne and fruit to room and all staff were wishing me a happy birthday. Hotel is small only 38 bedrooms, location is perfect, rooms fantastic, staff lovely, swimming pool small just a plunge pool for sauna really about 4.5mts x 2.5mts but with jets to swim. Ski school, what a great personal service. Food lovely, nothing too much bother.
This hotel is at bottom of slopes, we skied down left our skis and straight to bar or room to watch slopes, dining room etc all overlook slopes.
YOU WILL NOT BEAT THIS HOTEL IN BOROVETS, WE CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK NEXT YEAR !!

My daughter (8) and I decided last minute to go Skiing, so took some time to research Countries and Resorts, wanting to make it a cost effective experience, we settled on Borovets, after reading many a review about it being very good for beginners. Next was time to choose a hotel and after much googling, we picked the Ice Angels. This was definitely the best choice, the food was good (certainly above my expectations, read more about this later), personnel gave great service and were very polite, it was spotlessly clean and the location was great, although you can't rule out the Rila Hotel, but that was less personnel as it was a much bigger hotel.

Food:

I am going to make this a big part of my review as most reviews written make out that the food is not that good.

When we reviewed places to stay and general information about food in Borovets and in particular the hotels themselves, it seemed to me that if you wanted better food you should eat away from the Hotels. Well in the Ice Angels, although it wasn't gourmet quality, you didn't have to eat elsewhere.

The breakfast was the same each day, a buffet style hot or cold affair and as I wanted a decent breakfast I went for the eggs, bacon, sausage and fried bread... it was enough to get you going for the days skiing ahead. There were also boiled eggs in their shells, cheeses, cold meats, cereals, breads (with the worlds slowest toaster), fresh fruit juices, coffee, tea, water and milk. So something for everyone, although maybe the fussiest of eaters will moan, like my daughter, but there were many others that didn't have any problems. The evening meal was of similar standards, although we all agreed that it was a little on the cool side, but was more than edible, the menu changed each night, but consisted of the same line up... soups and pasta starters, a variety of meats and vegetables (hot and cold, although I think some should have been hot/warm) and then a choice of deserts.

One warning about the evening meal though, there are no drinks included, not even water. All drinks are treated as an extra, which I think is a little off, water during and a hot drink at the end, should be included as a minimum.

Also, as we arrived late, there was no hot meal, we were given not great ham, cheese and cucumber sandwiches, which although we ate as we were hungry, were at the least.... yuck. So be prepared to take something with you if you require to eat on a late arrival.

Accommodation:

The whole place was spotless, from rooms to restaurant. Beds were made each day, rooms tidied and stocks replenished daily. We had an en-suite shower room with w/c and sink, hair dryer and shaver point, also there was an emergency pull cord in the shower and a telephone in the en-suite too, which was a little odd, I wouldn't want to call anyone from the loo! haha The shower was lovely, good heat and pressure.

The only problem I had was the heat, I don't like stuffy hot rooms, but because you needed it warm to dry out at the end of the day all your clothing, I guess it had to be. I didn't sleep well at all and was my only gripe, but I talked to others in other hotels and it was the same thing. Next time I will take something herbal to relieve this problem.

Spa and Pool:

We only ventured down to this area once, my daughter wanted so desperately to go into the pool, which turned out to be nothing more than a big bath really. But for my daughter it was ok, again very clean as were the rest of the Spa and Fitness facilities and the staff again were very polite and friendly.

Ski and Boarding Equipment:

Our deal was through Crystal Ski our tour operator and equipment was from outside of the Hotel, so I cannot comment, apart from to say that there looked to be a good range.

Staff:

We were greeted by a friendly man at 11pm, who gave us the previously mentioned crap sandwiches and gave us our electric room key. He had the same polite and friendly nature during our entire stay, which was reflected by other members of staff, but not all staff spoke English, however the Front of House ones all did, exceptionally well too.

They cater very well for youngsters too and make an extra effort to make small people feel so welcome, my daughter was more than happy to approach the staff if she had a query or wanted anything.

Conclusion:

There is no doubt that when we return to Borovets next year, we will stay in the Ice Angels again, as will our new friends who were our neighbours and part of my ski group. Even the other members of my group said they will stay at the same one, from our accounts and when they visited the room one evening for a drink or two.

I hope this review helps you, I cannot say enough good things about the hotel. If you don't have a great stay at this hotel, then there is something wrong with you, because every English speaker there said the same good things and were very happy. And the non English speakers looked happy too.

Newly built, cozy hotel. Personnel speaks english. Good spa facilities and excellent staff on that area. Average food quality. Very clean. Good modern design. Ideally located at the center of Borovets, right across from the 4-chair lift. Many taverns and bars around it. Spacious rooms. Good price overall.

We are living in Sofia and very often escape to the mountain for the weekend. I am quite reserved for the quality of hotel services offered in Bulgaria, especially by the so-called 4-start, big, famous hotels. They usually have a high price, but nothing to defend this price really..also usually the attitude in such hotels is awful - that's why I've always preferred small family hotels.

We have stayed in Rila hotel and Lion hotel in Borovets, and I was dissatisfied with both. That's why, when we headed for Borovets yesterday, was in despair that we would be accomodated in the next big disappointment.

We selected the Ice Angels hotel by chance, it was the first among a few hotels we wanted to check. What was my amazement when we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who offered me to show me the room, give us a baby cot for our younger son and a free bed for the bigger son. Both for free. The prices of the double room were funny compared to the other hotels so I chose to see the studio lux type of room.

For 99 BGL/night (~ 50EUR) we got a super spacious room, with modern furniture, fireplace, view to the mountain, breakfast for 3. I was so astounded - couldn't believe we got this for this price!!

Before we parked at their free parking, the baby cot was brought in the room, the additional bed was made, the fireplace was fed with wood.

The breakfast was good too, though they seemed to have too insufficient personnel and sometimes did not manage to replenish the eaten food.

But in general - this hotel made me believe in Bulgaria one could get an excellent service for the money he pays. After all, 50 EUR is not a small amount for people living in Bulgaria...although in Europe as a whole this is nothing.

I will also post pictures shortly - as soon as I get them out of the camera.

I intend to visit this hotel when the ski season begins - it's directly on the ski pistes so it will surely be excellent. The pricing will be different but the price deserves the service!!
