I was really impresed with the accomodation at Hotel Coquille considering the fact that is a small town and quiet a few hours drive from San Paulo. My stay there was a very pleasant one. The staff was exceptionally friendly, the room was super clean, great breakfast, a few minutes walk to the beach and next to the rain forest.....couldn't ask for any better

Room Tip: the owner speak good english,. very helpful for me

Upon arrival we were greeted by a great guy named marcos who was very attentive and responsive to any of our needs. the hotel is situated in a secluded yet inviting setting with lush vegetation and a tranquill feel. The main beach playa grande (long-beach) I believe that is what they call it is a short relaxing 10 minute walk, there are alot of beautiful places to explore in ubatuba so if your looking for a clean tranquill setting to rest your head than definitely check out hotel coquille!!! ciao Anthony

We booked one night here as a result of earlier reviews. We were mostly disappointed for the following reasons:

- Our room was very small with a view of neighbouring roofs - no beach/sea view.
- The swimming pool was filthy.
- Nobody at reception or in the restaurant spoke any English.
- The location was way back - about 10-15 minutes walk to the beach.
- No TV channels in English.
- The price for such mediocre accommodation was excessive, and they had already debited 50% on our creditcard before we arrived, so moving elsewhere was not an easy option.

On the plus side:
- The breakfast buffet was quite good (but no toaster to use).
- The limited mini-bar items were fairly priced (the same as in stores).

Reading the other reviews, we can't see all the hype. We did not experience it at all. To us, it was one of those places that you just wanted to check out of as soon as possible - and move on.

Hello. My name is Marcos Castro and I would like to answer to this review, clarifying some points.
For Ubatuba, a room with 16,50m2 is not a small one. It`s enough space for a couple and a third person. You will hardly find bigger rooms. We are 250m from the beach – it`s possible to see the sea (but not the beach) from some rooms (the Super Luxo Rooms) – but this was not the case at this reservation. It was a Luxo Room reserved.
Although there were no complaints about the swimming pool cleaning (we have a satisfaction survey that is made with our guests every check-out) we are aware to it. The cleaning is made every morning, and when necessary also at evening. It must be said, although, that as we are close to the Jungle (Mata Atlantica) and there are some trees near the pool it is common that leaves fall around and inside the pool.
We are improving our service, training some workers who are learning English. I already speak fluent English and do my best to give all the information and assist our guests in what is necessary. There is also a second person who speaks good english and two other workers who are learning, and really try hard to serve and to make our guests welcome. We have a special e-mail
We are 250m from Praia Grande, the beach where we are located, and it takes about 4 minutes to be reached at a normal speed walk. Our guests are used and prefer to leave their cars at the hotel, walking until there.
We have 2 channels with movies with original sound (and Portuguese subtitles).
Definitely, the accommodations are not mediocre. We have lots of pictures of our rooms at our website, some of them are 360 DEGREES. And yes, it is our police to make the 50% debit in advance, for any guest – foreigner or not – mainly at high season, from December until the end of February.
It is important to note that the reservation was made through a partner company, where as it is in our website it is presented a video with an aerial view that shows in the end the distance that the hotel is from the sea and also a google map with its location.
Anyway, I would like to thanks for the compliments, and say that we already have a toaster at our breakfast now, as it was suggested.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful! As a solo traveler from the States, I felt extremely welcome, comfortable, and safe throughout my stay in Ubatuba. I felt like Marcos was a guardian angel who gave me wonderful recommendations for great beach spots, where the local bus stops were (how the public transportation system worked), great places to eat, and even set up a tour guide (Rege) for a full day of adventure in the Atlantic Rainforest and deserted beaches. The hotel and Marcos' hospitality greatly exceeded my expectations, and I left Ubatuba with unforgettable experiences and friends. If you really want to experience Ubatuba, stay here and don't be afraid to explore!

The hotel was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is next to the jungle, so is quite private and is couple blocks from the beach (Praia Grande). The hotel can arrange surfing lessons with a good instructor.

We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Coquille. The staff was friendly, and also helpful. The breakfast was truly great with lots of fruits, juices, breads, cheese, ham, eggs, coffee, etc. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom shower had plenty of water and pressure. The location of the hotel was excellent to visit the gorgeous beaches north and south of Ubatuba. The pool area was also very nice. There was plenty of hotel parking space. We enjoyed watching the multi-colored birds that come by the veranda next to the breakfast room every morning. This is an excellent value hotel.

We choosed this hotel , because of the so positive reviews , but unfortunatly ,we did not think that this is such a « great » hotel. The so called « luxo - room » are clean, but nothing more. You have a bed , a TV and a fridge, all in wite without any decoration. The air-condition is extremly loud, so that it is impossible to sleep while working.
Without doubt the people are very nice as well as the pool is ( allthough the terrace would need a new painting ).This hotel is compared with european standard max 2 star hotel.
