“Divine beef and excellent service”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

If you want an incredible meal (albeit not cheap!) these places are amazing. Great meats and the salad buffet is also excellent. Table constantly swarming with friendly waiters, it's a fine establishment. You do pay for it at the end .... But worth it.

“always an excellent BBQ”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Fogo de Chão is a mandatory BBQ place to go to in SP. Excellent service and meat quality. Even though you pay less in the US branch you are in Brazil so forget about the "real" cost of it.

“Great Churrascaria”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Standard churrascaria as far as the setup of the restaurant. The food was delicious, salad bar was extensive and impressive. The service was very attentive but there was an incident when we were paying the bill that left a bad taste in my mouth. My colleague that was paying for 9 of us (900 Reals) indicated a 15% tip on the bill. When the credit card receipt came back, they had added a 50% tip for a total of 1,350. Of course mistakes do happen, but it felt more like a regular move they pull on gringo patrons hoping that they don't look too closely. As soon as we noticed the waiter took away the bill and changed it without much of an explanation. I still give this place 4 stars for quality, but check your bill closely...

“A Great BBQ Restaurant!”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

This review is based on a visit in February 2011. Fogo de Chao is a churrascaria, Portuguese for BBQ. It is also a "rodizio" churrascaria, which means different cuts of meat are brought to your table, each on a long sword and cut in slices onto your plate. You may accept or decline any of the meats, and ask for a specific meat if you wish. In addition to the many different cuts of steak, pork, lamb, you will also be offered sausage, chicken, and even chicken hearts!
Traditionally this comes with a salad which is served buffet style. Help yourself to as much as you like, go back to your table and wait for the meat to arrive freshly cooked over a grill. This is rodizio.
Fogo de Chao translates into English as "fire of (on) the floor". This goes back to the days when the Brazilian cowboys - gauchos - in the south of Brazil lit their camp fire and leaned sides of cattle and sheep around the fire in the shape of a wigwam to slowly cook the meat.
So, with this background, let's review this restaurant. Spotlessly clean and modern, this is an enormous restaurant, I guess at least a hundred tables, and full when I was there last year, the service was extremely efficient. We only had to wait a few minutes for an available table and having ordered our drinks went to the salad buffet. This was not just a few bowls of lettuce and tomatoes, but a gastronomic display of every conceivable salad vegetable you could image beautifully presented, and so fresh.
Waiters move quickly from table to table offering the different cuts of meat which they will slice off the joint on the sword and allow you to take it onto your plate. The meat is of the highest quality. You have a red and green cardboard disc by the side of your plate. Green side up means more meat, red, please stop, for now at least. You can always go back to green if you want to!
This was a great dining experience and fully recommended. Oh, and by the way, the restaurant has a beautiful log fire burning at the entrance, just to remind you of its origins!
