Owner description: Modeled after the palace and gardens at Versailles, the gorgeous, purpose-built Museu Paulista da USP (commonly known as the Museu do Ipiranga) occupies the promontory where Brazilian independence from Portugal was peacefully, if loudly, proclaimed by Dom Pedro I in 1822. The landscaped gardens provide a refreshing respite from the surrounding urban chaos, while the ornate museum itself — affiliated with the University of São Paulo — educates visitors in the history of the city and nation via portraiture, antique vehicles, housewares and informational installations. Ticket includes entrance to the nearby Museu de Zoologia (Zoology Museum).

The museum is located next to an enormous park. The area and building are quite attractive. There are many historical items in the museum. I heartily recommend a visit to this very fine museum

Spend an hour in the museum and you'll know all you need to know about SP's history. The park around the museum is nice and peaceful, worth a stroll.

By no means the largest gallery on offer but the building, external and internal with wonderful surrounding gardens make this a worthwhile visit.
A good overview of the country's history inspite of not being able to speak Portuguese.

Go there every time we visit Sao Paulo, & every time there is a different exhibition. Masters often on display.
