“worth a mess”
Reviewed February 16, 2012

Try getting to the basilica around 10AM so that you'll find a seating spot for the 11 am mess or else you'l stand up through it all. There is a beautiful gregorian choir (that's why so many people attend this mess) and at the exit you can buy a wide variety of delicious breads made by the monks. Tasty!

“One of the few Sao Paulo architectural gems”
Reviewed February 7, 2012

The curch is one of São Paulo's finest, located right in the center, and benedictine monks still live in the adjoining monastery. The façade is beautiful, the interior of the church superb, and the monks keep a small bakery to the left, where you can buy delicious breads and cakes.

“A little bit of history”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

The monastery of Sao Bento is located near the city center on the main through way and unfortunately not in the best part of town. Parking is a bit of an issue, but it is well worth a visit to learn about the beginnings of the city of Sao Paulo. As a special treat presentations with Gregorian chants are made in the Christmas time in Decmber.

“Go try the Monk's bread!”
Reviewed January 16, 2012

It's a quiet place to a nice stop on the buzzle of the old São Paulo center and also now the monks got a little cafe and store selling breads and cakes really lovely and tasty!

“Peaceful place in the middle of the caos”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

Entering in the Mosteiro de São Bento is like entering in another dimension. You left behind all the noise, movement and crowd of the street to enter in an atmosphere of peace and lull.

If you are lucky, you can also get a fantastic organ presentation. The space is not so luxurious but is cozy and is a good place to stay a little away from the craziness of the big city of São Paulo.
