“Citylights great experience...”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

I always have been skeptical about staying in hostels . I have never been to any until I came to stay at Citylights. I had planned to stay one night and I found myself staying for more than 2 weeks. I have to say i felt like home away from home, the place is clean, its located near most tourist activities, busses and train stations are few streets away. Access to free wifi, safe environment, clean bathroom, comfortable rooms ,super friendly staff ready to help or to guide you if you want to venture in the city . You have to know Lucas (one of the partners) he lives on location and he will tell you everything going on in the city, (night bike tour, local hangouts ,dive bars, places to go on a given night only locals know . 2 thumbs up , to Lucas, Fabiana, Jessica,Raphael, thanks for making my stay enjoyable and changing my thoughts about staying in a hostel...

Room Tip: ask for the room for 4 on the second floor, its window is on the side of the bld, so you have minima...

I've been in São Paulo before and I always stayed in top rated hostels in the city, and I can tell, CityLights Hostel has the best environment for travelers, always clean, staff super helpful, nice common areas, comfortable beds and rooms, nice showers, quite good breakfast and amazing music. Located blocks from Faria Lima metro station and the best bars in town. Thanks CityLights had a great time!

Nice place and staff, includes a really nice buffet breakfast. Room with AC, WIFI and a comfortable bed. The location is really good, and safe, considering the ideas that I had about Sao Paulo's safety before visiting. It's very close to bars and pubs.

So my friend and I hadn't stayed in a hostel in over 5 years so weren't sure what to expect. Walking in there was a great party on in the courtyard and lots of friendly people with welcome drinks. They weren't actually staying at the hostel, just friends of some of the people who run the hostel.
Citylights has around 8 rooms, some ranging from very nice and luxurious private rooms and others two bunk beds with a desk and sink. Bathroom is good, clean and tidy they have extra showers and separate toilets next to the bar downstairs.
Drinks at the bar are very affordable and the hostel is ten minute walking distance from the famous Batman Alley and the lesser famous Faria Lima Metro.
It was difficult getting cab drivers to find the way back at night despite the cabbie having a satnav which was a little frustrating but it was about 30 minutes MRT from all the art galleries and historic parts of the city.
The food they prepare for you is pretty good and they have a kitchen and nearby grocery store if you feel like preparing your own fruit or even a cooked meal! The breakfast, while simple is excellent, bread, cheese, jam, some meats and delicious brazilian coffee!
Would stay again

Room Tip: Shared rooms are nice but go for the private room if you can!

I loved the stay - the staff was exceptionally nice: always friendly, helpful, funny, honnest, relaxed but at the same time experienced in their job.
- The bathrooms are beautifully designed, clean (every day), and there was always paper and soap
- The breakfast was rich and healthy and this standard was kept every day
- The kitchen was clean and well equiped. The fridge was cleaned reguarly. There was always space to store your own food
- The whole hostel looks like on the photos but in reality is even more beautiful. They work a lot with wood and plants, so when you enter the hostel and you stand in the inner yard with the commun space, you enter a calming atmosfere of well arranged natural spaces of wood and plants
- The localization is perfect: so short to Vila Madalena, 3 minutes to streets with small shops (old book stores and other nice little things), very close to the best bakery and also the best empadaria of SP, very close to the Metro Faria Lima
- What is very special is FLOWER POWER Tours by Lucas, a staff member. He organizes for little money trips into nature for a few days or a week. Despite of being a super person to be around with who plays the best music mix in the car, He has everything (tent, sleeping stuff, food), you dont have to worry about anything.

Room Tip: I recommend the 4 people room (the simple one) as I stayed there the whole time.

I really enjoyed this hostel. The staff were nice and helpful. The accomodations were a little small but nice and comfortable. They have a lovely outdoor common area, full kitchen for cooking, and a bar. My only complaint was the fact that we didn't have air conditioning in our room above the bar and I was thus eaten up by mosquitos in my sleep. They do have air conditioned rooms available but we made a mistake and didn't request one while booking.

Stayed in this hostel for two nights and it turned out to be a good base to see some of SPs attractions. Lots of bars and cafes in the area. Municipal market is also about 30mins away if you walk and take the subway - it's a must, definitely go do it.

My girlfriend and I stayed in a large dorm with no bathroom attached, but this turned out to be quite comfortable regardless because the bathroom is more than big enough to have your bag in with you to change clothes, repack, etc. The beds are exceptionally good for a hostel.

Staff is very friendly - it's basically owner run (the owners are there just about all the time) and they're very helpful and awesome to hang out with.

Phone the hostel to arrange transfers from the airports (it's about R$120 from GRU to CityLights one way).
