Owner description: Rising out of the northern frontier of the city and boasting more than 8,000 hectares of unspoiled Atlantic coastal forest, the verdant Parque Estadual da Cantareira (Cantareira State Park) offers rustic hiking trails, swimmable lakes, birdwatching and breathtaking views of the sprawling city below. Next door is the Horto Florestal, the one-time summer mansion of São Paulo state governors, and the monument to the Tropic of Capricorn, which runs through the park.

Excellent place for a very nice view of the city. You just have to be prepared for a 4km hike on paved road, first you get to Pedra Grande, you can take some food and have a picnic there, and afterwards go to the lake nearby, another 1.5km walk but it is worth it.

This is an excellent option to see and feel nature and put your aerobic condition back in shape in a few hours. Roundtrip (Base/Top/Base) is about 10Km on a few very inclined paved roads where motorized vehicles and bicycles are not allowed. Or else, you can chose to zig-zag the park through the tracks you see on the side of the main road. It will take a good 2 to 3 hours to get to the top, when you actually feel how worth was all the physical effort and energy burned. The almost 180 degrees view of the city from this humongous rock is amazing... great time to take off your shoes and touch nature at its best...

I would not recommend this attraction if you are not in good physical condition. There are some really inclined and long paths to walk.

If you want to take some fresh air, meet old subtropical trees, small wild animals like bugio (type of monkey) and iguanas, and also have a big sight of São Paulo city, that´s the place to go.
The tracks inside this park are good and walking there restores our energy levels. Relaxing, fun and amusing for less than 10 reais !

Magnificent area for leisure, with mounds of centennial trees as well new ones. Each one has its name, family and specie. Parque is beautiful, with tropical and equatorial green houses, lakes & picnic areas.

This is a nice escape from the city, only 45 minutes north of the centre but feels further. The park is big, with numerous entry points, each with a variety of trail options - from 300m to almost 10km in length. Several have pleasant waterfalls to cool off, occasional views of the city in the distance. All in the middle of the Atlantic rainforest.
