Owner description: The emerald heart of an oftentimes gray city, São Paulo's Parque do Ibirapuera offers respite from the urban madness among cool, shady trees and mentally-stimulating structures. Running trails, bike paths, and yoga and capoeira sessions let locals and visitors alike keep fit, while a clutch of museums and galleries — such as the museums of Modern and Contemporary Art, all designed by master Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer — gives the brain a good workout. The impressive Museu Afro Brasil and fiery Auditório Ibirapuera are two of the park's treasures.

This is def the place to hook up with the local skate scene. There might be better skate spot with more variations, banks and curbs - but Ibirapuera just has that great brazilian vibe where people are interested in each other and hanging out enjoying the skating and sorroundings.
That said, the park also holds a few museum and is a great location to spend half a day going around taking in the nature, people and activities.

Depending on the time and day, your experience can vary.

Of course if you are visiting Sao Paulo, you should visit the park. You can buy fresh coconut water, acai, ice cream, smoothies, or coffee. There is also a buffet restaurant in the park.

I live near Ibirapuera park and go there to run with my boyfriend about three times a week. Some days it gets so crowded that it becomes a hazard to run or even walk. I have been hit twice by skateboarders who don't care who is in their way. One time, I actually fell and scraped myself, and the person just kept going.

I am always amazed that there are not more accidents in the park, although I have seen a few. Many people do whatever they want and there are no rules regarding lanes.

Nevertheless, the place is great for picnics even when it is crowded. It is also great to meet up with friends during the day. If you plan to do other activities, choose the area, day, and time wisely.

If you like green areas, to relax, ride at bike, practice slackline (very popular at this area) or just organize a picnic with friends, THAT is the place. Awesome!

The park is very extended, 2 square km, lots of trails, trees, benches, sports, people (very popular on Sundays). The lake has many carps, ducks and black swans. Skateboarders come here to practice and show off their latest stunts. The local population likes to stroll, stay fit (jogging, biking, martial arts) and it is a perfect place to people watch. There are a few small eating establishments with fast 'park' food (acai juice, icecream, baked goods, coffee), and some cart food vendors. The park was very safe and well visited without being crowded.
A second lake has a multimedia fountain, displaying a variety of water shows every few minutes. There is a formal garden part to the park as well (did not get there). The AfroBrasil museum inside Ibirapuera Park is free and had a great exhibition of African art and living conditions and circumstances of AfroBraziliens 100 years ago (all explanations in Portugese only, but still quite interesting).
This may not be the major SaoPaulo tourist attraction, but it is certainly a perfect way to experience a side of SaoPaulo and its inhabitants that you may not come across otherwise. A great city park!

it is really nice to walk around on Sunday and see all the Paulistas walking, playing, strolling in the park. It is a well maintained, clean and safe park. You can play soccer.
