Owner description: The emerald heart of an oftentimes gray city, São Paulo's Parque do Ibirapuera offers respite from the urban madness among cool, shady trees and mentally-stimulating structures. Running trails, bike paths, and yoga and capoeira sessions let locals and visitors alike keep fit, while a clutch of museums and galleries — such as the museums of Modern and Contemporary Art, all designed by master Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer — gives the brain a good workout. The impressive Museu Afro Brasil and fiery Auditório Ibirapuera are two of the park's treasures.

“Great park in the middle of the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

Ibirapuera stays to Sao Paulo as Central Park stays to NYC. Park is huge, lots of activites going on especially on the weekend and it is the ideal place in the city to go running, strolling on a skate or people watching. Majestic trees and tropical plants will keep you watching up but watch our for the bikes!

“Large park offering respite from the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

It's a huge park with so many different things to do. With the main museums and cultural centres located in the park it's got some very interesting things to do. Besides that there is a lot of greenery to walk/run around and some nice nature.

“Beautiful Park in the concrete jungle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

The Ibirapuera park is incredibly beautiful, very well kept and quite large. It also hosts some of the city's major museums and cultural centers, like the MAM (museum of Modern Art), The Afro-Brasilian Museum, the Bienal, Oca and also located in front of the park is the MAC-USP - Museum of Contemporary Art. For those who enjoy architecture, the designs of these museums are incredible and made by none other than the talented Oscar Niemeyer. It is usually crowded but vast enough for you to find an empty space of your own if you wish, and also has excellent picnic locations. At the main entrance, you can hire bicycles, skates, skateboards, etc. There are inumerous courts and fields for sports and a very long running track that circles the park. If you visit their website, you can also check out when they have free shows and concerts in the park, which is quite often. It is a true São Paulo gem! Do not miss it!

“Busy Sunday wandering”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Arrived at the park around 12 midday on a Sunday and due to it being a steaming hot day, the park was well crowded.

It's really up to you what you want to get out of the park. It's a great location for those wanting to run, cycle (which you can hire at the entrance), skateboard, rollerskate. There are also basketball courts, football pitches (5 a-side size), volleyball courts and loads of play attractions for the kids.

For those after a quiet leisurely walk then this might not be the day to visit as it's really popular.

I enjoyed walking the whole way around the park and then settling down against one of the trees taking in the surroundings.

There are a few buildings in the park that have music and art shows, but nothing was on the day of my visit.
