“Location Location Location”
Reviewed September 10, 2011

This location is the best, convenient to the business center of Sao Paulo.....only one block away. The staff here could not be nicer. Every employee I encountered had a nice command of the English language, which can not be said for other similarly nice hotels in the city. I know because I visit Sao Paulo on business 3 to 4 times a month.

I had a room on the 8th floor for this most recent visit. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was comfortable and they provide feather pillows which were very nice.
The air conditioning worked well and the water pressure in the shower was terrific. The elevators were quick and readily available. The only meal I had was the buffet breakfast and it was very good. The pool and gym look nice although I did not use them this visit.

An added bonus was the internet connection...excellent.....it was the fastest of any of the hotels I have ever stayed at in Sao Paulo.......I have stayed at the Renaissance, Pullman, Caesar Business, and Holiday Inn Hotels.

Next time you visit Sao Paulo check out this hotel.......you will like it.

So maybe this place is some sort of local institution and had some sort of stately elegance circa 1980....with that said, it is the equivalent of a Sony Walkman when comparing to an Ipod nowadays. I stayed here for only one night and then switched hotels. Sure it is clean, the location pretty good and the staff is nice enough but for the money (not cheap by any means), I would stay many other places in SP. Time to renovate big-time Mr. Maksoud!

To call the Maksoud Plaza “Very Tired and Dated” is simply preposterous and also a sign of ignorance.
The Maksoud Plaza is a different kind of hotel. For the design of the property, the owner decided that it would not be a deluxe hotel for the sake of luxuriousness, but for the quality of its services and the pleasant - and even zestful - comfort inherent in its entire ambiance. At the Maksoud Plaza, the engineering details, architecture and artistry of its surroundings are unparalleled.

The majestic Atrium Lobby provides an unforgettable welcome providing a sophisticated symbiosis between the Building and the natural Green environment, with emphasis to: the sculptural structure of unique solar ceiling connected to the external atmosphere with the sun entering the entire atrium walls and the areas of the lobby; the colorful towers surrounding the panoramic elevators; indoor water pools with fountains; gardens with tropical plants hovering from interior terraces that reflect sunlight tones offering an impressive view of the 22 floor structure. And all that, besides the musical sounds throughout the Hotel.

The Hotel features 416 spacious Rooms and Suites, simply but elegantly appointed, all equipped with advanced technology including state-of-the-art Class A fire protection, secure magnetic keys, worldwide TV channels and remote control for air conditioning, lighting scenarios and music. All furniture was made of the most traditional and rare Brazilian hardwoods: Dark Sucupira and Cerejeira not available anymore for use in furniture.

Since communication is essential in modern days, the Hotel pioneered implementing network’s of high speed internet wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) in all rooms.

There are four restaurants and five bars, operating 24 hours a day, every day of the year. They have been operating since the inauguration of the Hotel 32 years ago, with an impressive menu always modernized. A complete Health Club with an indoor heated pool, fitness center, massages salons and sauna. Two fully equipped Events Pavilions convention, with 5.000m² of multifunctional spaces for meeting and banquet, Theatre and Meeting/Dining Rooms. The Events Pavilion of the Maksoud Plaza is the most experienced and the largest in the hotel business in São Paulo.

In this extraordinary setting, the Maksoud Plaza manage rates that are competitive to other hotels in the Five Star category in São Paulo. It is therefore senseless to say that it is “So Very Tired and Dated”.

The hotel looks it is was created in the 70's and is stuck there. The furniture, decor, layout of the restaurant, etc. are a through back to 30+ years ago. Customer service is poor and I can honestly say, during my 10 day stay, I never saw one member of staff smile, whether it was the receptionists, room service or concierge. The room service walk into your room, place the tray on the table, hand you the bill to sign, all without a word, smile or thank you.

The hotel is very over-priced for the level of comfort and service provided.

The Maksoud Plaza is, for 32 years, providing services to the satisfaction of all guests and customers and has always been considered an icon of Brazilian hospitality.

As independent Hotel, conceived and designed by its owner, with unusual attention to details, providing for a rare combination of comfort, security and convenience for one´s perfect stay. As every masterpiece, it raises different feelings and opinions, which are welcome.

All of our management and staff strive to keep the Maksoud Plaza is as prime, warm and glamorous as ever. That includes rate management to offer the best value in comparison to similar Five Star Hotels in São Paulo.

Please accept our apologies about your disappointment with the supposed “lack of duty” with the staff with whom you had contacted, but what we normally receive from our guests is praise about their performance and quality of services. We always insist on the training of our staff to have a polite and cordial rapport with our guests. And this has been fully acknowledged throughout the years by own clients.

I don’t have a choice… But if you do… AVOID!

Well at least if you go be sure not to anticipate a 5***** Hotel. Maksoud Hotel is well far away from 5 star. It might have been a 5 star some 35-40 years ago, not anymore.
The décor is typically 70’s, even 60’s Common areas are dull and looking very old. Old synthetic leather chairs. Everything is old and smells old. Bar is old, breakfast room everything. Some refurbishing has been made to the rooms. I still don’t know what are the room floors made off.. my best bet is cement painted with some kind of plastic white paint. Bed covers and curtains could be sold as antiques. I’ve been twice to the Maksoud. The first time my bed was totally worn off with a huge hole in the middle, after a full 24h trip to Sâo Paulo I just wanted to rest and didn’t bother asking for another room. The second time my bed was ok. Bathrooms continue to display that beige colour… well the hand basin is just 20cm above my knees. Perfect for dwarfs.. I could continue on and on… I also have to admit that the place although very old is very clean.

If the hotel was advertising itself as a 3*** would be ok. The problem is they pretend to be what they once were and they no longer are: a luxury hotel.

Breakfast is a joke. They provide very small plates 15 cms diameter at the most, so you either eat less or visit the buffet a number of times. Waiters just clear tables they don’t even serve coffee although they are very alert trying to prevent ladies wearing “unsuitable” clothes to enter the restaurant. That is shorts, Bermuda or even sandals, that is considered as morally unacceptable, apparently because of the Muslim origin of the hotel’s owner.

I don’t have a choice, my company has reached an agreement with this place, the worse hotel I go in over 50 destinations around the world. If you have a choice just be aware on what to expect to avoid disappointments.

For the aboved mention reason I can’t comment on value for money. I can comment on Queipirinhas at an outrageous 15$ each, and similar price range for any extra… just like any 5***** hotel!!!

Thanks for reading.

The room was like walking into a 1950's set. Very well kept, lovely modern wooden furniture, nice colour palette, great view. The lobby is not so great: rude staff, lazy concierge, horrible ads, not a single chair or sofa to seat! The fisrt impression is not nice, it seems like it was a great hotel 40 years ago. But then, when you settle in, it's convenient and comfortable.

Room Tip: Room in a high floor.

Thank you for your comments. Your opinion is very important to improve the quality of our services.

The Maksoud Plaza Hotel is well known important landmark of tradition and elegance in the city of São Paulo. In 31 years of operation it has been innovating all the time, without losing its classic features.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the impolite attitude of front desk team. We will intensify our staff training for such failures do not happen again.

We were surprised by your information that there were no single chair or sofa to seat in the lobby. We have a large lobby as can be seen in our web: maksoud.com. There are several chairs and sofas and also two lounges for seating and reading areas in the lobby for use to our guests, located in front of the lobby, that provide an silent and more private space for the comfort of our guests.

It will be a pleasure to host you again at the Maksoud Plaza. Please call me up if you are here.

Sincerely,

Henry Maksoud Neto

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Maksoud Plaza, in light of some of the reviews on TripAdvisor. I had tried to book at the Unique and the Marriott, but they had nothing available, so Maksoud was my third or fourth choice. But I was very happy with it. The staff was very helpful, the location is good, the room and the bathroom were both spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The decor is a bit dated, but so what? I would definitely stay there again.
