“Decent boutique hotel”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

I had very high expectations after the #1 Tripadvisor ranking. My room was just ok. Very small bathroom and it could have used a comfortable chair for relaxing. The internet was a bit slow. The location is good with easy and safe access to the Paulista Ave and a close subway stop.

However, the one thing this hotel excels at is customer service. Dessert was delivered to my room free of charge as a thank you, bottles of water were given for free and champagne was offered at check in. The staff at the front desk was really helpful with recommendations and directions. The concierge was also extremely helpful with fun dinner and bar suggestions.

I was traveling on business for two weeks and stayed in the beautiful Hotel Unique for the first week. I had to switch hotels for the second week, and found the L'Hotel Porto Bay on TripAdvisor as ranked #1.

I had quite high expectations, but left the L'Hotel Porto Bay knowing that I probably would not stay there again. Customer service was good. I had several problems with my room - the water was not hot, the room was freezing, and the "free high-speed wifi" was extremely slow. The L'Hotel Porto Bay tried to address these issues. They brought a space heater up to my room, which ended up not working, and they had someone install a wireless router into my room, which barely increased the internet speed. I still was unable to successfully Skype with my family in the United States.

For true business customers, I would not pick this hotel. I did not find it comfortable and it did not have the technology requirements for my stay.

I do not know why this hotel is rated as #1 on TripAdvisor. Perhaps because I booked through Expedia as opposed to the hotel, but I was very, very disappointed.

The Unique was much much better.

L' Hotel Porto Bay is a real nice hotel located 100 metres away from Avenida Paulista right in the center of Sao Paolo in an area that felt really safe. There is even a subway station nearby.

At check in we were received with a glass of bubbles which set the stage and we felt very welcome. The reception area is nice and oozes class without being over the top.

The room was huge (I think we were upgraded to a suite but I am not sure) and decorated very nicely with high quality furniture. It all felt very sophisticated in a good way.

Our rate included breakfast which was excellent with made to order dishes like waffles and eggs, delicious fresh fruits with all the details just right. The service level was very high and we were treated very friendly!.

On top of the hotel they even have a small swimming pool (somewhat shallow, so don't expect to be really exercising).

We had a great time at l'hotel and would definitely recommend this wonderful place!

I have been in quite a few luxury hotels in the world and in Brazil and to be honest, this is the best I have ever experienced in terms of service: kindness and smiles, proactive attitude, reliability, always an answer to requests and questions (obviously positive!), welcome and goodbye drink (water or sparkling wine), suggestions of all sort, etc.
I am not a fun of this city nor of the area, as Sao Paolo is all about business and Avenida Paulista as well but I spent very nice time here. There is a sauna and 2 Iacuzzi tubs, a swimming pool, and massages are available from 6 am to 11 pm. Amazing!
The look and feel is pretty traditional, you might like it or not, but everything is new, clean and very well mantained.
The breakfast is great as well: many different types of fresh fruits, lovely fresh juices, yoghurt, bread, croissant, cheese, a good coffee and cappuccino, etc.
The buffet is continuously checked by the staff and it always looks as the breakfast time was just started.
We asked for a light dinner, served in our room (after the lunch in a churrascaria...), and it was really good and on perfect time!
I love this hotel!

Excellent hotel, with a very good restaurant, nice and professional staff, small building, which avoids those huge crowds at the reception desk.
Very comfortable rooms, especially the suites.
Special services, such as transport and concierge.
A must go and come back.

As I write this review, I am sad to be leaving this hotel tomorrow as it is the best hotel experience that I have had in Brazil to date. I travel to Sao Paulo a few times a year and discovered L'Hotel Porto Bay on Trip Advisor. I usually stay at the Intercontinental, however I have found a new home. This hotel has European elegance, wonderful staff and goes the extra distance in every way. The hotel and rooms are very clean, the breakfast is delicious, and the location is perfect. Each night a small desert was delivered to the room when I returned, and not only were the beds turned down, but the room was cleaned again. Congratulations on great management as it has paid off.
