“Best in Sao Paulo”
Reviewed July 30, 2009

Fabulous room, most comfortable bed. Great lobby bar with good drinks and bar food and an ever changing crowd: business people, models, ladies who lunch or whatever the Brazilian equivalent is. In a top location, easy to get to most likely business districts in Faria Lima, Paulista etc. Surrounded by beautiful people, shops, bars, restaurants.

SP is not a pretty city, but this is a decent neighbourhood. The hotel is eye wateringly expensive but stands head and shoulders above the others I have tried (Grand Hyatt, Renaissance, Unique)

We stayed at the Fasano in jan 2009. The hotel is very very hip and trendy. The rooms are very spacious the staff very attentive. The rooms are decorated in a crisp clean and tecnological manner with no fuss. The location is by far the best in SP. Pricey but If you want to be a protagnist of this city rather than a spectator stay here. Careful of the VIP service they offer for the airport, expensive and not at all useful, especially if you don't fly economy (though we were 60kg overweight and paid nothing I am not sure this was because of the service). Also the wifi is charged which is was a shock, but you can connect to the unsecured appartments close by free of charge. Pity there is no open-air pool.

Fasano is a great boutique hotel. The rooms and the decor achieve something that is difficult to describe, but my best attempt would be to say that if feels like you are staying at a classy old style house, in the best neighborhood of Sao Paulo.
If you want to mix it up with the locals, you can try the neighborhood bakery, Galeria dos Paes, for a great breakfast at an easy price.
If you have a chance, go and visit one of the street market fairs (feiras). There is one near the hotel on Sunday mornings. The quality of the produce and fruits is great and it is a beautiful thing to see.
All in all, my favorite hotel in Sao Paulo and I've come to the Fasano at least half a dozen times and still love it.

I stayed at the Fasano for one night in November as the Emliano was fully booked. The hotels are within two blocks of each other and compete for title of the best boutique hotel in Sao Paulo.

Both hotels are fantastic and deserve their 5 stars, with only a few small differences between them. For example, Fasano restaurant is fantastic but i preferred the Emiliano beds and linen. Fasano hotel rooms have wooden floors and more subtle tones whereas Emiliano is more modern in its furnishing and design.

One negative with the Fasano is they charged me R$45 for one night of internet access which is complimentary at the Emiliano. In addition Emiliano offer two complimentary garment pressings which i wasn't offered at Fasano.

I just returned from the Fasano Hotel, where I stayed for 5 nights. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Checking in was quick and efficient. While they prepared my room I had breakfast in the dining room Nonno Ruggero. The food and the service were excellent. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and bright, with a nice decor. I used the room service a couple of times for dinner and breakfast, The service was quick and very efficient. The concierge is well informed and very helpfull as far as suggestions for sightseeing or restaurants. The manager was helpfull and friendly going out of his way to answer questions or make suggestions.

The staff is very nice and friendly, they make you feel special. The hotel is small and has a very convenient location. Close to the best stores, restaurants and a big shopping mall. It is elegant and quite. This is a place for those who value privacy and a quiet environment. Last but not least, the bar serves the best caipirinha!
I love this hotel and I will be returning soon.

Wow! I have stayed a lot of hotels (some very, very good ones too) but I have to say I am so impressed with the Fasano en Sao Paulo.

The hotel itself is located in an upscale area of Sao Paulo surrounded by boutiques (ie Louis Vuitton, Versace etc) and some European fashion retaillers like Retro, Diesel etc. When we arrived the concierge took great pride in saying this one of the safest areas of town for foreign tourists to walk around in.

On our first afternoon, we walked to the local pharmacy and understood what "safe" means in Sao Paulo : every store has 6ft 4" security guards wearing dark suits with ear-pieces "monitoring" the pedestrians. In our short walk of around 2 blocks I counted 35 security agents. Sure there was no problem but to the European/North American sensibility of "safe" - it just made you want to run back inside the hotel.

But who cares? If you have the Fasano to stay in you could be in Hell itself and not notice. The entrance is decorated in a fusion-style of british gentlemans smoking club and brasilian architecture. There are two restaurants and we used both. At lunchtime the first floor restaurant offers a stunning cold buffet for a fixed proce of around $50 Reals (around $18 USD) per person. This is NOT the usual awful tasteless food that travellers associate with buffets worldwide. It was Italian antipasti, delicious roasted vegetables, creamy slabs of mozzarella, home made deserts. A bit like being let inside someones kitchen to help yourself! - excellent value for money and faultless for variety and quality.

Dinner was in the Fasano restaurant which opens off the lobby area. During the day (we checked it out in advance) it looks impressive but dark but at night it becomes a truly wonderful room, back-lit marble behind the bar and stunning lighting "through" the wine bottles - difficult to explain but it works. The food was very good. I was travelling with two young children and the Maitre jumped through hoops to arrange food exactly as my youngest daughter wanted. The price list in the restaurant always looks terrifying (they use the $ symbol, but if you divide the price by three it becomes much more reasonable. This hotel (and it's restaurant) are not cheap - they probably come in at similar prices to say the Four Seasons in New York but in quality, service and design.

All I am left to deal with in this report are the rooms and other ammenities. Our room was on the 20th floor of the hotel and with stunning interior design with a mixture of period brazilian pieces, modern decor and (interestingly) venetian murano glassware. The overall effect was very restful and relaxing. I guess I could probably move in and live in room 201 for a year or so without needing to change anything. I found the lighting a little too "modern", the living room could have used a couple of softer table lamps to lower the tone in the late evening.

Beds : big and comfy and overflowing with pillows of all textures. The turn down service was fine, again the only criticism i can make is I would have expected some washable cotton rugs/mats at the bedside so you don't have to put your feet on the parquet at the bedside. Both bathrooms were massive and had abundant towels and ammenities. Both bathrooms are decorated with pale limestone effect walls. The main bathroom had a crack from floor to ceiling but this didnt detract from the room at all.

Immediately above us on the 21st floor was the pool. This is inside with views across Sao Paulo through 4 massive windows. We were swimming watching the sunset which was very cool. The idea of an "inside pool" put me off when I was choosing the hotel however, given the climate (swampy, frequent storms) and the smog that characterize Sao Paulo, I think this is actually an asset. The pool was impeccably clean and the water warm like a bath tub. At the poolside there are two hot tunbs and two dry saunas. Above the pool on the 22nd floor is the spa (didn't use this) and above that a stunning gym on the top floor reachable only by the stairs from the 22nd. Not a problem for me but it might be an issue for some folks to get up there. The gym was again superbly equipped. Boxing bag and gloves, free weights, machines, personal trainer, cardio machines (6 in total). Both the gym and the pool had "maids" on duty to wipe down the surfaces so every time we visited the pool it was perfectly clean and dry - despite all the splashes from my kids. This, plus the fact that most guests don't even bother to locate the pool, make it like a private sanctuary. We went four times and never saw anyone else.

The hotel staff were all very friendly - I find travelling with two young kids is a good guide to what a hotel is really like - all the best ones go out of their way to make the kids stay a pleasure and the Fasano did this and more. Chocolate easter eggs sent up on arrival, a selection of videos from the concierge on loan and little "barbie style" gift sets on departure.

Prices at the Fasano are eye-popping for your average Brazillian - given the state of the dollar they make a few well-heeled Americans flinch also. For those of us lucky enough to be paid in Euros, the exchange rate makes this hotel expensive, but withing bounds. Expensive it is, worth it is is.

Do you get the idea I liked this place?? - Amazing Wow Amazing, I probably wouldn't come back to Sao Paulo as a choice (Because of the personal security issues outlined previously), but you have to, then stay here - you need never touch Sao Paulo - just enjoy this hotel and like me you will leave with a cheesy grin from ear to ear.

  • Liked — The staff - as elegant as the hotel but genuinely friendly and proud of their hotel
  • Disliked — The city of Sao Paulo generally

Such work can be seen in the facade bricks, imported from England, and the lobby's marble beams from Rome.
