A friend an I originally booked rooms at 3 Dogs hostel but for some reason most likely via the booking website it didn't go through. So on arrival to 3 Dogs we found it was fully booked and we had no beds reserved. They recommended this new sister hostel saying it has same facilities and as it was closer to Av Paulista we decided to go with it. Maybe it's because it's still early days but from what I've heard about 3 Dogs you cannot compare the two. One receptionist was particularly unhelpful and rude and actually said we could not have breakfast that was being served while we arrived because our checkin wasn't till 1.30. That's the first time a hostel hasn't allowed you to have breakfast like that as most know you're only there that early because of an overnight flight or bus. The staff also had little traveller knowledge of what's on and where's good to go for things. The bedrooms were compact, I haven't got a problem with 10 beds in a room but there was little floor space and bunkbeds were up to 3 beds tall. They seem to also only have two toilet/shower combo rooms for the whole hostel, bar the ensuite room, so their floors were always wet and grim. Having stayed here has made me make sure I reserve enough in advance that I get the hostel I want to stay at. Definitely won't be returning unless there's no space elsewhere.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Beats Hostel Sao Paulo is a cheaper Hostel, 2 blocks from Avenida Paulista. 400 meters from the metro on vibrant Avenida Paulista, close to the clubs, bars and restaurants. Beats hostel has a lively Bar, 5 clean-ish showers and free buffet breakfast with fruits, ham, cheese, milk etc. Listen, our stuff is older, ok? You're not going to find any spiffy new design chairs here. Our floors are scuffed. Our walls are painted only bi-anually. Our bathrooms don't mask previous user's body odeurs with pot-pourri. That said, there's no need to mistake "old" for "dirty". If you carry that disposition, please consider paying double our price, for a boutique hostel. Paying double, you prolly won't even miss our large-smiled-traveler-crew ;-). Enjoy the city! ... more less
