“Acceptable enough”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We stayed at the H3 Hotel Paulista in Feb 2013. The hotel is acceptable enough, the porter helped us with our bags and the reception staff spoke English and were friendly. WIFI is free and with fast connection in the room. Breakfast is continental, samey after day two. It’s the kind of hotel where you have all that you need. I think it’s recently been renovated as it’s quite old but has areas which have clearly been modernised. Our room was ok, not properly cleaned, when we moved the curtains it left a lot of dust and I’m sure had we of inspected the beds or beneath them we wouldn’t have been pleased but coming in/out, sleeping, washing all fine. The bathroom was modern which was nice but there was an additional door in our room which when opened revealed a large unused room. This looked like it used to be a bathroom but was now used to store mattresses in. Neither the room or mattresses we found in there were advertising and we felt this should have been locked shut, it’s not the kind of thing guests would like to see, looked like a scene out of a horror movie, SAW. Strange off cream coloured, dirty walls and mattresses….gory.
The hotel helped us to arrange our next accommodation in Rio and also helped us arrange dinner (since we didn’t speak Portuguese). If visiting SP again we’d seek alternate accommodation but if I had to stay there again I could live with it, it’s not that bad.

Totally secure with cameras all over and an easy to use, working safe. Good location, close to metro station Train-Wasp, near to Avenue Paulista It’s like a business hotel.

Room Tip: This is close to Metro station Trian-Wasp or something like that......ask for room that is quiet if...

I stayed at this hotel and enjoyed my 2 day experience before traveling inward to Rio. The location is ideal since it is near Avenida Paulista. Many great dining options nearby. The staff was professional and courteous. They even upgraded my room and placed me way towards the top. Had some great views of the city from above. The cost was around $80.00USD at the time, but given the economy in Brazil, it may be higher. But if your considering staying at Hotel Paulista, it is a safe bet.

Room Tip: Standard room at Hotel Paulista is sufficient

I stayed one night transiting from São Paulo to Rio. The room is good with functional bathroom and aircon. It's a bit noisy but I have noise cancelling earphones so it was okay.

The staff spoke perfect English and was incredibly helpful.

Not sure about the location. As I stayed one night and wasn't able to explore sufficiently. However, the vicinity seems rundown and scary. Ended up staying in the hotel and not exploring.

I booked a taxi through the hotel and it came on time!

Very modern interior with everything you expect, it was clean and comfortable - the wardrobes were rather large but included no hangers! The breakfast wasn't too interesting and was promptly cleared away, sometimes before you'd finished. However the staff were very friendly and spoke a good level of english. Location was good but neighbourhood felt a little dodgy for females travelling together.

The way towards Av. Paulista is rather steep, so someone must consider that the "walking distance" may be tiring. Said that, there are no negative considerations to be made. To me, it seemed a suitable location to reach FGV on Itapeva st.
For an excellent price for the area, you are going to find a large and clean bedroom with air conditioning, minibar, flat tv and a desk. The breakfast is good and there is a small restaurant serving some meals, what is a fair substitute for the lack of nearby restaurants.

The H3 Hotel Paulista is a recently (2011) renovated, independent hotel with 11 floors and 2 elevators. We paid around USD 80 for a standard room per night (December 2012), including free WiFi access and a complimentary rich breakfast buffet.

The Avenida Paulista, one of Sao Paulo’s most important shopping/business streets, is very close (an uphill [!] walk of about 15 minutes, or 3 minutes taxi drive [cost: about 8 Reais]. Also, you find luncheonettes, bars, a super market and even a shopping mall with cinema nearby. Because of its central location, most major attractions in Sao Paulo can be reached by taxi in about 10-15 minutes, or you can use the Metro station ‘Trianon-Masp’ on Avenida Paulista.

As mentioned, the hotel was renovated lately, so our room on the fifth floor featured many amenities (flat-screen television, safe [laptop compatible], WiFi connection, room keycard, digitally controlled air conditioning, mini bar, etc). The staff at the 24-hour reception was very professional and friendly, and at any time, at least one fluently English-speaking person was present (Leandro, Bruno, or Daniel) – not to be taken for granted in Brasil.

A general note to WiFi users: We experienced that WiFi connections tend to be slow all over Brasil (around up 0.6 Mb/s, down 0.3 Mb/s), compared to high speed access in Europe (up 10 Mb/s, down 5 Mb/s). Also, the latency/consistency of the connection varies, so it is not recommended for VoIP services (e.g. Skype). This is a general observation, and not limited to the hotel.

Overall, a great stay in a nice hotel at an affordable price. Highly recommended.

Not cheap, but nowhere is cheap in Sao Paulo these days!

We found it quite pleasant. It's a short walk from Paulista Avenue where hotels cost much, much more. The room was clean and spacious. Excellent bed, good strong shower, staff spoke English and were most helpful. The wifi worked reliably.

The restaurant serves a quite a good breakfast but in the evening it is only microwave food. There was no option for a late check-out, but they did store bags securely. There's a taxi rank just outside, the hotel is clean and modern, and it's quite well-situated. So if it fits your budget and location, I see no reason not to recommend it.
