Description: Serafina Sao Paulo is located at the heart of the upscale Jardins neighborhood and housed in a mansion built in 1908. The entrance features three Renascence-style arches to separate the veranda from the main building. Offering a piece of Italy in every detail, the walls are covered with paintings, drawing and phrases from the typical Napolitano trattorias. In the back; a small open-air Italian villa with a wood-burning stove enables delicious aromas to drift through the restaurant. The kitchen is under the helm of the Chef Bruna Barbosa. The menu focuses on Classic Nothern dishes. Our pizzas are made with special Italian our, extra virgin olive oil and sea salt imported from Sicily, baked in wood-burning stove. We offer two versions of the famous Margherita Pizza. On the menu, you can also find special salads as Serafina (Mixed green leaves, grilled chicken breast, roasted italian pine nuts, raisins and cherry tomatoes) and special dishes as the famous Farfalle Al Limoncello, Risotto Al Tartufo e Prosecco or Spaghetti Alla Provenzale (spaghetti with shrimp sauteed with garlic, white wine and tomato sauce. Beatiful people, but service is not that good, very slow you must almost grab the waiter if you want his attention. The food is good, when you finally succeed at ordering it.

I went for a business lunch and the location is convenient for a lunchtime stop for tourists shopping in the Jardims area. The table I was seated at (having booked) was fairly cramped, and by the service area, but was acceptable. The service was attentive and of a good standard, as you would expect in Sao Paulo where this is common in restaurants.

The food was a let down. Calamari was amazingly thin rings of tough and over-fried squid rings - quite possibly not fresh, which for a mid-week lunch was not forgivable. The sauce was dull and uninspired - a tomato concoction that could easily have been from a tin or tube with some cayenne or paprika added.

The main course was a Saint Peter fish, cooked in thin slices of apple, served on a bed of leek with a reduction of Pinot Grigio 'swirl'. The 'swirl' or plate decoration was sweet, but could have been made from anything and added little to the dish. The leek, which also had two small batons of courgette was perfectly ok, as any vegetable that has been boiled to near extinction is - reminiscent of UK school dinners in the early 80's in a nostalgically good way. The fish itself was again at best 'ok' although the apple wrap was confusing and gave the fish the appearance of a batter cooked in old oil - slightly too dark looking, and again, a confusion for the taste. Given the calamari has seen better days, perhaps this was a good thing. My colleague had sea-food spaghetti - again the sauce had the slightly-too-bright shine of something not originating from the kitchen, and after the calamari, I didn't have the nerve to probe in too much detail about how good it was. He made the appropriate noises, given I was paying the bill.

Around us, beautiful people came and went - stepping out of smart cars for the Valet team to shuttle off somewhere, breezing in, ordering large bowls of salad with mineral waters and leaving again to continue the main activity of the day, which for most appeared to be shopping in the surrounding area. Of the salads I saw were a rocket salad, served in a large bowl with perhaps some sun-dried tomato on top (?) and a plate of maybe 5 slices of tomato with 4 slices of mozzarella cheese - I could not help but feel this might be delightful in a small restaurant in Italy somewhere, where the chef probably knew the buffalo that produced the cheese and grew the rocket in the garden out the back, but that is never going to be the case in Sao Paulo. Some excellent cheese and high quality olive oil could be a saving grace here, and could well be what they do, but I was left with the feeling that it probably would not be, and that I would not be returning on the off-chance.

At the risk of sounding classist, I would put this restaurant into the bracket of places for those with more money than taste. As somewhere in the right location to offer convenience to well-heeled shoppers not looking for anything too taxing or adventurous (not unlike a Pret A Manger in any shopping area worldwide) and somewhere for nervous tourists, in a city of gastronomy not found outside of Brazil, to flee the air-conditioned environments of their local hotel to feel they are seeing 'the real Sao Paulo food scene'. They are not.

Good food, fair price and a wonderful place to spend a good night!!
I´ve been in this place three times and all of them we had a great service.
If you are around Jardins area enjoy it!
Ah, one of the best carpaccio I´ve had in my life!!

A bit of a disappointment for me. Carpaccio di vitelo was good but there signiture salad with "filet mignon" was a big disappointment. I was expecting pieces of filet mignon but it was pieces of meet cooked in a sauce with no taste to it. It was like gulash. Nice outdoor seating, very popular with locals.

Went for dinner in Serafina. The staff were very friendly. Though they do not seak much English, they were very attentive.
The ambiance is good and it is a nice place to sit, chat and eat.
Food quality was great. The place is reasonably priced.
