My girlfriend and I went to have Cebiches at this place with the expectation that it would be as good as advertised. We were disappointed. We had the expectation that the cebiches would be as great as those we experienced in Lima Peru, Quito Ecuador or even at Peruvian restaurants in Miami.

The taste and flavor is not that great, I counted 5 shrimps in my cebiche and they didn't come with maiz or cancha. They came with potato chips on the side. So I guess for those Brazilian folks that don't know much about cebiches Lamar is great but in reality it is a disappointment not to mention the price for such small appetizer.

To finish on a positive note, the place and ambiance however is nice.

I and my wife went out to dinner in La Mar Cebicheria and we had a pleasant experience. Service is good and the ambiance is cozy and friendly enough. Having said that, we were a bit disappointed with the food. Regaring the couvert, some of the fried potatos were not crisp and probably leftovers from another meal. The sauces, on the other hand, were outstanding. As starters, we had tiraditos and they were unreproachable. Given that tiraditos and cheviches are the backbone of a Peruvian restaurant, it means you will not leave here completely dissatisfied. We had the plancha marinera as main dish. The shrimps and squids were delicious but the octopus, almost non-existent by the way, were not tender as probably were not cooked to the right point. We were also not exactly happy as a promotion from Santander entitled us to a free desert if we paid the bill with a Santander card. We told them about it and even so we were not granted the free desert. We did not want to make a fuss out of the situation but ... Given the fame of the Mr.Gaston Acurion, we definitely expected more!

This Peruvian seafood restaurant is an excellent introduction to the pride of Peruvian cuisine, cebiche. White fish and sea food are marinated in citrus juice and mild-to-hot pepper, tenderising them to an almost-cooked state. Served with salad, fresh citrus and many other possible accompaniments, cebiche has become a staple of international fusion cuisine, more so than the Japanese sushi and sashimi, which tend to remain more exclusively in Japanese-style restaurants.

La Mar occupies a pleasant room in the up-scale Itaim district of Sao Paulo. Service is attentive, the wine list is fine, and the high-ceilinged room is cool and airy. Decor is subdued but individual, and the prices are reasonable. It's as well to wait before choosing your table; a Brazilian birthday meal can become a little raucous.
