Owner description: The Portuguese Language Museum is located in the downtown area of Sao Paulo city inside Luz Train Station. Luz Train Station is an imposing 1901 English construction. The building shows a surprising mix of the new and ancient. The modern installations of the museum are in complete harmony with the train station's Victorian style of architecture. Currently, the Portuguese Language Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to only one language, in this case it's Portuguese language. Inaugurated in March of 2006, the museum has three main halls; a temporary exhibition, a permanent exhibition hall and an auditorium. In the permanent exhibition hall, you can see the history and the development of the Portuguese language; you can see what it was like in the past and the changes it underwent in Brazil. Other interesting aspects are the cultural expressions and the regional accents. The museum also shows temporary exhibitions dedicated to writers and important subjects related to the Portuguese language.

“A must for Portuguese speakers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Excellent place to visit if you speak Portuguese. Very rich in terms of content, with creative ways to expose the Portuguese Language, it's origins, influences and evolution. Highlight to the timeline that spreads different languages over time and the moments when they somehow mixed with Brazilian Portuguese, creating the language as it is today. Must see!

“Interesting also for non-portuguese speakers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Very nice attraction for a fair price. Especially good for portuguese-speakers, but also nice if you just want to know a bit more about the language and its history (if I am not mistaken, there are some electronic translators available).
Perfect if you got kids going to school!

“Very interesting, but could be better.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

My (Brazilian) wife took me here, and I enjoyed it as an English native speakers who learnt Portuguese as an adult. It was nice to see lots of school children there, learning about ther mother tongue, and I found its content very interesting. However the layout could be better, and the content deeper.
