Great Japanese restaurant in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
It is beautifully designed and decorated, the food is a joy and great celebration.
The presentation and preparation are very entertaining and the food itself is absolutely fantastic.
Very recommended, however not cheap.

We went to Shintori on a recent trip to Sao Paulo. Upon arriving we requested Teppanyaki and were told "no" in Portuguese and escorted to a lounge table. We figured out that this was the waiting room for the Teppanyaki as people were taken back to the main restaurant table by table. We ordered a bottle of wine on special, and although I may have misread it, we were surprised that it was only a split of wine. Based on the price, a full bottle would not have been out of the norm. The wine was quite expensive. They then brought us appetizers of raw vegetables, crisps and hummus. When we looked around we noticed they were on all of the tables. When we were called back to Teppanyaki we left them on the table after eating a minimal amount, and were shocked when we got the bill that we were charged R$12 per person for the appetizers that we didn't even order!
The dinner quality was good, the sushi served was amazing, but after receiving the overall bill, I don't think the price matches the quality. For 2 people on teppanyaki, 1 split of wine our total was $R380. There was even a hand written "add on" to our final bill, it was more than the 10% service fee but as we don't speak Portuguese fluently, we decided to overlook it and move on. Maybe good for special occasions when you don't care about price?

The decoration is amazing, I love the inner garden. Try one of the sushi samplers; it is expensive but totally worth it! The tempura is amazing

We went there this week with some friends and our kids. The restaurant has a very nice bar with live music and offers also Teppanyaki style, where a cook prepares the food in front of you at a steel cooking plate. Of course we choose this and were very satisfied. Plenty of fodd with excellent quality is offered already with the base menue suggestion. Cook was also not too annoying. All in all a very nice evening

Shintori is my favorite Japanese cuisine restaurant in São Paulo, a great compliment in a city with so many of them. Apart from offering guests the options of a normal sushi dinner, tatami rooms and the teppan yaki experience, the place is also home to a beautiful japanese garden that can be seen from most of their rooms and from the bar. That, together with the ambiance and service, transport you straight to Japan (I have been to Japan and was amazed to see how true they are to the original recipes). However, if you are a fan of very low prices, all you can eat sushi places and (specially) those very ocidental types of "sushi" (e.g. with strawberries, mayo, cream cheese and the like), this is for sure not your place!
