Black Stream Hotel is the budget sister to its neighboor Stream Palace Hotel. This place has two big pros: it is indeed cheap, compared to other alternatives and it is very well located, on downtown Ribeirão Preto and a couple of blocks from Pinguim, whose fame as beer house is almost legendary in Brazil (and, IMHO, pretty much the only reason to visit RP, apart having business there...). But you get what you pay for: a simple - although not cramped and in good maintenance - room, with the basic fixtures and no more. They also offer free wifi - not wonderfully fast, but usable.
I´d give them 4 stars, except for two problems. Breakfast, served on a small room on a restaurant annex to the hotel, was subpar: not much to choose there... Also, I was given a room which had a communicating door with the nearby apartment. Not a problem at all, except the noise from other room (a couple arrived at midnight, turned on the TV and started to chat loudly enough to keep me from sleep until 3 AM). It seems that several of their accomodation have shared doors, and this can be a nuisance after a hard day (or in the day after a visit to Pinguim)...
