(Calibration: I'm a 7 of 10 on picky scale) Trav on business, Campinas was base-camp for Brazil trip. Initially stayed at Royal Palm Plaza after landing at GRU as knew from previous trips. When returning to Campinas with hosts they recommended Ibis-Cmpns as more convenient for them in city center - Royal Palm on edge of city. Also, Royal Palm alomst 2x the price. My room was small for biz traveler - e.g., no place for folding garment roller except bed. (Sorry, I had photos of room, but now can't find.) But wifi worked well. Room & hotel areas I saw was impressively clean & in good condition for budget hotel. (recently remodel perhaps?) Rooms had nice space saving integrated shelving & desk. As is typical in Brazil, NO CLOTHES IRON in room for biz traveler. Bathroom is spartan but clean: soap made for 1 day of use!, no washcloths (again, as typical in Brazil hotels). Front desk staff spoke English ok & VERY pleasant/fun (- hey, this is Brazil! What else would you expect?) Frnt desk gets 5-stars for service, but the hotel is basic enough that overall service gets 3-stars. Breakfast was good - but didn't have time to indulge much. Excellent(!) wood fire pizza place near hotel - sorry can't remember name right now. Hosts drove us short distance to the place. Beware: there are plenty of "alternative people" on street corners around hotel at night - I saw from car & was informed by hosts. My typical "New Jersey boy", American colleague went out next morning to buy something & he returned safely & without stories so proves typical American could survive here if needed. I'll likely stay here again during my next stays in 2010 with host company. One or two nights is doable for me - but longer would aggravate me for lack of space & some services. Place is ideal for young-couple exploring city. Too small for families & biz-travelers - unless other rooms bigger.
