A mid-range hotel - perfectly comfortable and reasonable breakfasts. The room was a little compact - barely room to sit on chair at desk. The aircon was weak, but was necessary to minims morning traffic noise and occasional night noise from some nightclub/s. Despite these minor niggles it is a perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable hotel near the centre of Porto Alegre. Fortunately I didn't pay the price advertised at reception (that would have been outrageous for a hotel of this quality).

Room tip: higher up reduces street noise

We spent several nights at the Coral Tower Trade Center on the recommendation of a colleague in the city. We arrived to learn that only one front desk clerk spoke fluent English, having lived in the U.S. for several years before returning to Brazil, but he would be available even during his off hours if we needed assistance. Although this is a very gracious gesture, it seems to us that there needs to be a larger number of hotel staff capable of interacting with foreign visitors, especially because Porto Alegre will host several forthcoming World Cup games this next year. We found the room to be clean but not particularly well maintained, and the air conditioning unit worked except for the fact that the room never cooled. Each morning's breakfast bar was unchanged, consisting of a typical central European style spread. On the positive side was the fact that the room was quiet which may be due to the fact that it was in the rear of the building, facing a residential area. The posted rate for a double room was 495 Real which, when converted to U.S. dollars, equates to $200/night which is not cheap. A $200/night room in most major U.S. cities provides a significantly greater experience and a more comfortable bed.
