Altough You cant see the ocean, and its not close to the beach, this charming place with spread houses, that remind traditional, colonial farm houses. The (botanical)-gardens are very well kept, romantic bridges that lead to the individual unities. Our room had an outdoor antique bath, with all privacity. Large rooms with excellent bed & linen. The food was delicious, reasonably priced. The only reason not to give a 5star is that its a bit time consuming to get to the beach and in Pipa its all about beach life, so we missed the ocean view.

Really nice hotel, with an amazing breakfast... the employees are really polite and helpfull... the swimming pool is nice to a dive at night, and there is a firepit , really cozy...
The hotel doesn’t have the see nearby, but they take you to a private beach (Praia das minas), with structure, bar and transfer!

No ability to adapt food
Coffee capsule with milk

No slimline tonic, no milk alternatives

I must say, I am so disappointed that we chose to spend the last week of our holiday at this place. Whilst it is beautiful and perfectly located, the service is so poor that we spent most of the time exasperated! This is due to three things 1. General poor service and complete absence of common sense 2. I hate to be the person to say it... but no English at all. If this was a genuine boutique hotel in the middle of nowhere, then fair enough, it might add to the character. However, this hotel claims to be international, having collaborated with Conde Naste and the Telegraph, however this place is so far from anything else on there 3. Lack of anything slightly niche or special (cost cutting maybe) e.g. their beach bar had no milk, they could not work out how to alter any meals to make them gluten free (nor could they explain which means contained it) - when someone has a strong intolerance this is a big issue. They also did not have slimline tonic, did not do wine by the glass or offer any alternatives to UHT semi- skimmed milk.

I’ll expand further on the first two points. Relating to service, every morning, despite the fact the place is swarming with staff we would often wait 20 minutes for someone to offer us coffee at breakfast (normally after us flagging them down). If we asked for something they couldn’t understand e.g. ‘a poached egg’ there response would be to say ‘one minute please’ disappear off and avoid us until we came and found them. They did redeem themselves slightly by upgrading our room when we explained it was not acceptable to do building work including loud hammers and drills at 7am two days in a row. There was also one guy that did deliver good service and knew us by name, however he was confined to the beach bar.

In terms of English, we can normally muddle through, however the absence of this combined with no common sense or desire to learn made this near impossible. There are so many members of staff that seem to think they are on holiday too as they are sitting about. Could they not spend some time learning ‘food intolerance’ or ‘milk’ in a different language. Everyday when we left the compound the gatekeeper would shout something at us in Portuguese, after we couldn’t decipher it the first day, could he maybe have researched it for the second rather than this being down to us. It is great they clearly employ local staff but if you want to market yourself as a hotel of international standards, some training would do!

Please could you confirm our hunch- have you changed management recently?
What I would suggest is that the staff spend a day at a genuine to hotel such as the Belmond in Iguazu, I really feel this would help open their eyes.

I really hope they take this feedback on board and endeavour to do something about this. You can upgrade people all you like but a beautiful room will never suffice with such poor service

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to raise this at checkout as the guy didn’t speak a word of English or even ask how our stay was.

We just spent a wonderful week at Toca da Coruja, in two ‘special bangalôs’ hidden in the tropical green of the grounds. The enormous rooms were beautifully decorated, with all the commodities we needed and very comfortable beds. The outside bath was as a lovely surprise. The two swimming pools were stunning and very relaxing after a day of adventures on the surrounding beaches and dunes.
The inclusive breakfast was delicious and dinner at the hotel was also superb, made it even more special by a very attentive and friendly staff. Every single person who works here went above and beyond to help us, a huge thank you to you all!
The hotel is conveniently located at the Pipa Vila, where we found lots of bars, shops and restaurants. I can imagine that the place gets very busy during the summer months and bank holidays, but August was perfectly balanced.
We would love to come back !

Will not add much to previous reviews but marked down to four stars because of a poor gym. It’s probably a great place for couples but bit quiet for myself on my own. Note the hotel is not on the beach... there is a great beach club a taxi ride away.
