Casa Cool Beans located in awesome Santa Teresa is just 10 minutes outside of Rio. David & Lance, owners, greet you every morning with fresh squeezed local juices, made to order omelettes and fresh baked pastries need i say more....yes!!! During breakfast they make rounds helping guest plan the perfect day. Meanwhlie patrons (from all over the world) chat it up... feels like family. Casa Cool Beans is surrounded by historical properties but none compare to the witty charm behind the gates of Casa Cool Beans. Too much good stuff go see for yourself. Casa Cool Beans or Bust

David and Lance are incredibly helpful and accommodating – we turned up pretty late after a long transfer from Ilha Grande and Lance welcomed us as if it were midday. The room was big and the décor around the whole place was beautiful; the details really made it. The breakfast was delicious and Sergio, Lance and David were all on hand to help us plan our days to make the most of our time in Rio.

The personal touch was evident through the personalised letters in our room on arrival, and on the day we checked out, there was a beautiful necklace left for me made from produce from the amazon; it was gorgeous and so thoughtful. We were also able to use our room the day of our late check-out, and Lance organised our taxi to the airport which meant we could rest and shower before travelling – ‘grateful’ is an understatement.

The location is great; safe and quiet whilst still near enough to central Rio. We won’t hesitate to go back to Casa Cool Beans if we visit Rio again.

the daily breakfast is also great... fruit, eggs, yogurt, breads, coffee, tea, etc...
wifi worked perfectly in our room and the air conditioning was nice on the super hot mornings.

Low profile, high value. Clean, well-run, informative. If we dare say more, we may not be able to get reservations when we return. Ok... an A+ experience. A precious gem. Love that Casa Cool Beans caters to Adults and that it is NOT a place for children. Relaxing, engaging, delightful, and insightful. We hope to return to Rio and stay with David and Lance and their merry band of awesome people!

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary and prefer to stay in a neighborhood vs a resort, this is a PERFECT choice. Quaint, funky, boho, comfortable and most of all -genuinely hospitable. The owners and staff are caring and will help you navigate the neighborhood, as well as organize trips to Sugar Loaf, Christ Redeemer, beaches, etc.
A note on the neighborhood, I loved it. But it's not for everybody. It's not gentrified, but there's lots of cute shops and bars and restaurants. Cabs are very cheap, you'll need them to the top sites and they are WAY affordable. I loved Casa Cool Beans and I'll be back!

I live in Brazil and go to Rio for work at least 15-20 times a year for the past 6 years. I have stayed at the Fasano (once), Hotel Santa Teresa (about 5 times) the Sofitel (about 25 times), the Marriott in Copacabana (maybe 8 times), the Arpoador Inn, and about every Accord property (Ibis, Novotel, Mercure etc) you can imagine in Rio at least once .

I just discovered the Casa Cool Beans on this last stay, and from my experience, this hotel beats all the others, hands down, for value to money ratio. Yes, it beats the Fasano (way overrated, huge attitude, and criminal prices) and Soiftel (great hotel in every way but in the $400/range per night...if you can get a room) and Hotel Santa Teresa (very nice hotel, but also in $450 range), you read this right - Cool Beans beats them all in my view.

It reminds me a lot of the Hotel Santa Teresa in style and elegance, but at less than half the price or the attitude. And if you want the restaurant at the Hotel Santa Teresa (which I recommend), it's a 3 minute walk away. No, more like a 2 minute walk.

I need fast internet for my job, and Rio hotels are famously bad for terrible internet. Not at Casa Cool Beans, where there is free and fast wifi throughout the property. (At the Marriott I think it's $30/USD a day...on top of almost $420/night room rate....a total ripoff).

The overall property is very well maintained.

Yes, this pousada is in Santa Teresa, so if you want to be on the beach, stay somewhere else...If you want a gym on property, room service, and all the trappings of a big chain hotel, if you want to bring a bunch of random 'friends' you met at local bar that night over to party all night, don't stay here, it will be frowned upon. There are plenty of other hotels that cater to that crowd. If you want a trendy, safe, laid back, clean, peaceful and personable local place at unbeatable price for value ratio, this is your place.

Minor issue is they don't take credit card (only cash or debit) for full payment upon checkout (credit only pays for 20% at time of reservation), but I think they are working to resolve this...it's a bureaucracy issue with Brazilian govt I think and opening a new business or something. Probably fine for tourists, but slightly more complicated I assume for business travelers. But it's a fairly minor issue.....

Overall, this hotel is fantastic. I looked real hard to find something wrong with this place, but never could find anything.

They deserve all the praise they are getting on TripAdvisor. Take it from me, a guy who has stayed in about every 5 star hotel Rio has to offer, and also every mediocre and crappy ones too.

Room Tip: pay close attention to room descriptions on web site. Each room is laid out slightly differently I t...
