This Japanese restaurant has a wide range of eating options. I opted for the sushi (~65R). The salmon literally melts in your mouth- it is that tasty. The other sushi/sushimi is decent. The rice plates are also very tasty and great value (~38R). Th restaurant inside is pretty uprising because it is very bright inside and it starts servicing dinner at 7pm.

“Nice food”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I had a noodle soup (Azumi udon) which was yummy and plentiful. However I had to wait for nearly 30 min for the soup while other tables seemed to wait for a shorter time for their meals. Maybe because I couldn't speak Portuguese :-(

The prices is quite expensive, but worth while the experience ... The staff is extremelly polite and helpful , tries to explain every dish in detail if you ask .... Really, the best Japanese restaurant in Rio ...

“The BEST. End of story!”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

I have been eating at Azumi for at least 20 years now. It is, without a doubt, one of my top favorite restaurants in the world. By no means inexpensive, the traditional Japanese dishes ("home cooking" style) that are rarely offered at similar venues, as well as the many delicacies on (and off) the menu, and the standards (sushi/sashimi/tempura, etc.) make any meal here an unforgettable experience. Owned and operated by the Ohara family, the service is as smooth and efficient as can be. The ongoing presence of members of Rio's Japanese community (and, indeed, Japanese abroad) are a testament to the authenticity and impeccable preparation of the food. There are a number of different spaces, each enjoyable in its own way (the counters, upstairs and ground floor), individual dining rooms for small parties, and the basement level ("downstairs") tables. Allow the staff to suggest daily "specials", take your time, and surrender to a truly exquisite dining experience. Everything is as fresh as can be. That any restaurant has been able to sustain this quality level for as long as Azumi has is truly rare. The location may not be the greatest and the look of the place far from glamorous, but once you've had your first bite of the food (and that's why I've kept going back for all these years), you know you're in heaven. Not to be missed.
