We went there looking for good traditional japanese food as it was advertised. Unfortunately it was a very bad experience, the food was regular and the service awful. We invited a couple of friends and we were very embaressed. We ordered the chef's manu and it was expensive and the quality of the food nothing special. Whoever classified it as a good traditional japanese restaurant never went to Japan at all. Surprisely the owners were therescreaming, what means it might be never good. Don't waist your time and money, go somewere else.

This place is by far the most "authentic" Japanese style sushi place I have ever been to in Rio - maybe even all of Brazil. First off, there were Japanese people working there. If you are in a jam and really craving something resembling west coast USA sushi, this is a decent place, but be prepared for weird service and very high prices. The place has a good atmosphere and does not feel like Rio once you are sitting inside. The fried things were pretty awesome. The sushi choices were limited to what you always see in Brazil...salmon, tuna, random white fish and imitation crab, but it was slightly better than most places. The omasake looks interesting but expensive. I will go back when I am craving udon and see how they do that...

I suggest to try Yosuki in ipanema. It is better and less expensive.
The quality is ok, but not the best. The slides are normal, the place is old style and noisy. It is overpriced.

4 weeks in Brazil and we have eaten in quite a few sushi restaurants (our kids have expensive but healthy tastes!). Azumi is heads above the others. It is much more traditional and looks to be run by Japanese staff, there are a couple of small private rooms where you can sit on the floor on low seats but we sat at the bar. It is quite small and really busy but they squeezed us in.

Quite expensive but you get what you pay for. We really enjoyed the mixed platter (see photo) and the other dishes were delicious. Just wish we were staying in Rio for more than 1 night stopover as we would definitely go back. It says a lot that our kids tried many new dishes and fishes, in fact they tried everything. Brought a smile to my face, very enjoyable meal.
