“Hidden diamond!”

Really a fantastic place in ipanema!

- special and veeery good food from the north of brasil with lot of creativity

- have 1 additional floor with lot of charme (ask at the door to let you decide, the girl at the toor is very friendly)

- the staff was bit slow in my opinion but very friendly. You go there anyway with enough time

“Really no that much of a deal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014 via mobile

We visited this restaurant yesterday with my wife. First, we walked by, thought it was nice (the decoration really is) and asked for a reservation for the evening... They handed us a card and told is you could only make a booking through internet... Really? Come on!
Well, after we arrived later we say down and asked for a couple of cocktails, none of them very good, and one was a caipirinha... I mean, in Rio at least you should me able to make a good caipirinha. Appetizers weren't that amazing either, we had some Moroccan "empanadas" that where just ok, nothing to write home about.
The main dishes on the other side where actually very good. Salmon sashimi or the red tuna. Especially the side dishes, a great contrast of spice and taste.
Dessert again let us down a bit. An ordinary brownie (not that good and a bit dry) with plain vanilla ice cream.
Service overall was barely ok. For example we sat there for a whole 20 min with just one napkin. And when we asked to move to the inside because it was getting a bit chili they told us it wasn't possible even though we saw free tables during the whole dinner...
So, it's an OK place, but don't expect much of it. Price wise a bit expensive, about 45 euros each. Comparing to Europe, we felt we could have done better for that price.

hi Jmurias,
my eternal suggestion for exotic/fusion restaurants like Zaza is to order the tasting menu. At Zaza they have 2: one for the appetizers, which comes with 5 types of finger foods, and another for the dessert, with 4 unique takes on brazilian classics, like merenque, doce de leite and tropical fruit ice-creams.
As for the price, that is what upper-end restaurants have to charge to stay a float now-a-days... Rio has become expensive, especially compared to european and american prices. Our suggestion there is to come for lunch (wed to sunday), where they have a set menu for almost half the price.

cheers!
Cristiano

“Hidden gem in Ipanema...quirky decor (inside), great food & drinks selection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

What a nice surprise!

We walked past this restaurant and it is difficult to really see it unless tight on top of it but what a treat we had.

We had lunch on the terrace, a nice Brazilian dim-sum starter followed by red snapper & shrimp risotto mains. They also do some interesting alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails to set you up.

Inside the decor is stylish and quirky...especially the grass effect fug on the top floor!

We really enjoyed our meal, which came to just short of $Rs200 for two mains, a shared starter, cocktail, beer and soft drink incl service, so it's not the cheap end of the market but is reasonable for the quality.

One for the list if in an around the area but it does get busy at peak times...another good sihn though to be honest.

“recommended both by tourists and locals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2014

Maybe not the least expensive bistro of Rio but definitely the place to be for a good meal. Recommended both by friends who were in Rio before me and by locals who recognize this as a restaurant with good drinks & food. When back in Rio, I'll go there again! Quite busy, so reservation no beforehand is adviced.

“Awful service, nice food and atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

We went for dinner twice during our stay since in the nearby it's difficult to find something better, this is the main reason for why I suggest to go.
The service is awful. No one cares about you. You have to wait a lot to get a table and that's fine even if they have a very special algorithm to assign tables. You also have to wait a lot when you are seated and need someone to take care of you.
The food is nice and above the average in Rio (not so difficult...)
The wine list is interesting but foreign wines are overpriced.

hi Masins,
We are sorry for not fulfilling your desired experience. We try hard to accomodate everybody, but there is a bigger demand than there are seats, and being a casual dining restaurant in Ipanema, most guests tend to spend 3 hours, making it hard to seat everyone who didn`t make a reservation. As for our wine list, we work with a lot of south american wineries, so as to keep the price down. Obviously you would be better off with those than with European, Californian or Australian wines. Try us again, maybe at lunch when it is less packed (wed to sun).

cheers!
Cristiano
