We chose Casa Beleza for 3 reasons; we were looking for a romantic hideaway (first real time alone after 5 years of small children), somewhere with a pool and somewhere that was away from the noise and bustle of beachside Rio. Casa Beleza was PERFECT!!!! Bindu and Antoine were there when we needed them for local info, great restaurant and live music tips, and made themselves scarce when we didn't. Fantastic breakfasts, LOVED the pool (a rare thing in Sta Tereza) and it was so lovely just to chill...
totally recomendable...

I loved my stay at the amazing Casa Beleza. It stands head and shoulders above the competition in the area.! It is located in Santa Theresa. The atmosphere, architecture, culture, and food in this section of Rio is truly worth seeking out. Bindu and Antoine, the owners, are amazing people who helped me in every possible way.
Their graciousness and knowledge of the region made my stay comfortable and easy to navigate. I had a large beautiful room where I could hear the birds, outdoor fountain and Bob, the resident "dog", really an old soul in disguise, announce the dawn of yet another day in paradise! Truly the best kept secret in town I can't wait to go back!

My friend and I stayed here for a week and what a fabulous week it was. Antoine and Bindu were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome at their beautiful mansion. It's in a lovely part of Rio - very lush and quiet - and we (both girls) felt very safe in the area.

We occupied a wing of the house, with a very large bedroom each, shared a beautiful tiled bathroom (HUGE! I've never seen such a big mirror above a sink - actually it was double sinks about a mile apart), and we had our own breakfast room with French doors onto the lush garden, where Bindu served up superb breakfasts of fresh fruits, juices, tea, coffee, eggs, fresh rolls, cheese and ham. Oh, and cakes. Needless to say I've put on weight!

The decor is lovely - all beautiful polished hardwood floors and antique furniture. And the swimming pool is gorgeous too - not that we made that much use of it as we rushed around Rio like there was no tomorrow.

Bindu was fantastic - always happy to help and a total star when it came to recommendations for gigs and the like: if you don't know Rio and your Portuguese is shaky, that kind of insider knowledge is priceless! And, as the first reviewer said, she does mix a wicked Caipirinha: I've really developed a taste for them.

A bit more about the area, Santa Teresa: we really liked it - it felt very real there, away from the tourist hotspots of Ipanema and Copacabana. The bars were full of locals and we came across some great live music purely by accident, just wandering about. And the locals were a truly eclectic and eccentric bunch: loads of fun! If all you want to do is lie on the beach every day then you might find it a trawl from Santa Teresa but if, like us, you're happy to try out the public transport and you're happy pottering about and not seeking out the company of other tourists particularly then you'll love it.

And if you wanted it to feel even more real then you could do a lot worse than ask Bindu to arrange a tour of the biggest favela there with her friend Paolo: we both agreed that was probably the highlight of the week.

I could wax lyrical but you're probably bored by now. Suffice to say that we'd definitely go back and stay with Antoine and Bindu (and their gorgeous baby, Bob the dog, and lovely staff).

Nuff said.

We stayed 4 nights at casa beleza (april 2008) and were absolutely delighted with our stay.
There were only 2 rooms sharing a common bathroom and a an entrance by the terrace were the breakfast is served.
Rooms (brand new renovated) are charming.
The house was being renovated and should be nicer again when you read this review.
There is small pool where you can refresh after a long day and a garden behind the house where you can observe birds or little monkeys when lucky. It is a very quiet place.
There is a friendly dog very well educated (he stops at the door step, never walks in).
Breakfast is awesome.
But what's make it very special are the multiple attentions of Casa beleza's hostess: Bindhu is indeed extremely helpfull and also very carefull about your well-being.
This is highly appreciable, especially when far from home.
The only drawback of staying in santa teresa is that you are far from the beaches (but it's not specific to casa beleza). So it depends what you are looking for in Rio.
If you only stay a few days to see the main spots, it's an - excellent - choice and i mean it .
I would definitely recommend and go back myself.

We stumbled upon this newly opened guest house during our stay in Rio, and we couldn´t have felt more lucky. It´s an absolutely beautiful house (the former residence of one of Rio´s governors), with a great pool, comfortable beds, a lovely outdoor area, and beautiful furnishings. Smack dab in the great artsy neighborhood of Santa Teresa, you´re in safe walking distance of fun restaurants (many with live music at night) and bars. And the nightlife of Lapa is just a short taxi or bonde ride away. Artists themselves (a filmmaker and a musician), Bindu and Antoine are warm and gracious hosts who happily share the lowdown on where to catch music, eat well, and discover the undiscovered gems of Rio. Bindu also mixes a mean caipirinha! And if you´re sick (as we briefly were), they´ll make you fresh ginger tea and provide restorative coco milk from their trees! With just a few rooms, it makes you feel like you´re living in Rio.
