the hotel staff - amaizing
the breakfast -nice
the view- spectacular
the rooms- nice and comfy
the price- ok
everything was amaizing!!
we booked a triple room, it was nice!!
the only thing with the internet you have to be at the lobby otherwise they charge you.
but I have to say I rather stay at the Ipanema side than Copacabana side ( I dont know its my personal opinion)

Room Tip: Try Ipanema side, its only 10 mins by taxi

My 2 girl friends and I stayed there for 2 weeks in March of 2013. The pool is too small looks like a big hot tub they only have 3 lounge chairs and I think 4 sets of patio seating. Once we saw that when we arrived we decided to spend most of our days across the street on Copacabana beach. The rooms are clean, but a bit small, our window didn’t have a view; just the apartment building across from us. There was an old lady there eating almost every time we tried to open the window it was a bit weird so we had it shut the whole time were there. The bathrooms would get very foggy after every shower so I opened the bathroom window and had it like that throughout the duration of our stay. Which I think faced the hotels kitchen because every time we entered our room it would smell of either bacon, pastries, cakes, eggs, sausages (well it would pretty much smell like tomorrows breakfast). My friends and I would even joke before we entered our room of what it would smell like. The staff barely spoke English the lady at the breakfast door didn’t know room numbers in English and didn’t seem to care to learn(but the hospitality industry there is not the greatest like in other parts of the world). So we had to say our room numbers in Portuguese every morning when we went down for breakfast.

Copacabana/Ave. Atlântica is great when the sun is up; but as soon as it sets ‘parents leave your children in their rooms’. There are police cars on every major intersections yet there are prostitutes everywhere. We actually saw a woman try to rob 2 different men in front of our hotel in a 15-20 minute span. Every time we went out for a walk at night whether it being for dinner or to just enjoy the fresh air people would think we were “open for business” . We still can’t believe for an area like that, full of tourists people couldn’t believe 3 single young girls can travel together. If they didn’t think we were prostitutes they thought we were lesbians (very funny) we just couldn’t win in Rio.

Anyway back to Astoria Palace please note there is also another Astoria hotel called Astoria Copacabana about a block west ‘I think’ if you take a taxi make sure you say Astoria Palace near Copacabana Palace. There is also free Wi Fi on the hotel lobby so people tend to hang out there a lot especially bored teenagers with nothing to do because their parents decided to go on date night. The sad thing about this is, as soon as it hits 10pm old perverted men staying there would bring prostitutes to their rooms and you clearly knew it because they would stand there and change money to give it to them. The girls these men would bring looked the same age as the bored teenagers sitting at the lobby.(eww I know) This was pretty much the sad part of our hotel stay; but overall I think we could have gotten a better deal elsewhere we just paid for the location and nothing more. If I was to do it again I probably would put more money in and stayed at the Copacabana Palace (We went there for dinner and the service was superb!)

This hotel is in a great position if you choose Copacabana Beach, our room had a direct view of the beach, if I returned I would choose another beach, less busy. The indifferent reception staff badly let this hotel down, another big problem was the fact that all the clocks were on the incorrect time!!! No one informed us of this. I thought the room and bathroom were average size, beds comfortable. Very slow wifi connection, breakfast very ordinary but adequate.

I am relaxing in our room at the moment, before heading out for dinner, just a couple of buildings along from the famous and beautiful Copacabana hotel, the Astoria Palace is in a brilliant location . The grand hotel name gives the wrong expectation to this hotel, a narrow building with compact reception and seating area. The staff were efficient and as helpful as possible, with limited English. 3 lifts, but only 2 working, it can take a long time to get to and from the room. We were in 1306 , a triple room 3 good sized single beds, average size room in my opinion, good storage, safety deposit box with key code- free, big walk in shower ( no bath) 1 bathrobe per person, a nice touch
There is a good size fridge to put your own water and duty free as well as being well stocked by the hotel. Tv is a bit old, very few programs in English.
None of the rooms have balconies ,so at 60 us dollers extra per nite for an upgrade to a sea view I wouldnt bother. There are 2 plunge pools on the roof, chairs and tables and 4 sunloungers
Fantastic views!!! Of the beach etc. there is a bar up there too.
Breakfast is served 6-10 and is really good.
Cerial, toast, cooked breakfast, hams and cheeses, fresh fruit all preped for eating. Pastries, cakes ,yogurts, bread rolls, juices, tea and coffee. All self sevice and return as many times as you like to the buffet. Tip, there are packs of biccies on the top, handy to take away for a snack later.
There is a transport company working from the lobby, only a little more expensive than taxis. I booked them to collect us from the airport, they charged 110Real

Tip taxi drivers speak little English so have your key card holder with you when out and about to show the driver the address back to Astoria palace.
There are several nice restaurants within a few hundred yards. Being right on the front of Copacabana, we felt safe, and enjoyed the passing musicians, street vendors and the lights and buzz of the place. The hotel is a bit dated in places, but comfy beds, cosy feel, excellant breakfast, and fab location we are happy and would probably stay again.

Breakfast was complete and very tasty.
We had a room with sea view which was nice.
We asked for a double bed and got two separate beds without an excuse which was kind of a nuisance.
The person behind the check-in was not particularly friendly or welcoming. Other staff was friendly though (mainly the bell boys).
Having stayed in Ipanema before, we definitely prefer the area and people there, however, the location of this hotel and its price is a reasonable alternative for Ipanema.

The best ting about this hotel was that is was situated on Copacabana. Unfortunatly the hotel din't give a good first impression. On a the receptionst was more interesting in shuffeling papers and not of new guest checking in. Only one of three elevators work.
