I arrived at Iberico with high expectations from reviews on TA and comments from friends.
Most of the things we experienced at Iberico have already been noted on TA: limited menu options, high prices, slow service, etc, so I won't repeat them here.
I really liked the room. Smartly decorated and we did not find the tables that close together and the noise factor was not that outrageous. We got a great table in the back of the first floor. It was a high table along the wine cellar. We sat up high and got a great view of the whole place.
The service was good, albeit it is quite slow. Our waiter was timid, but knowledgeable.
The biggest disappointment was the food. Between our group of 4 we ordered 5 different plates between appetizers and main courses. Not one of them is worth mentioning. The ham balls and scallops were tasteless, the meat dish with pesto was nothing special and the fish dish with pasta was soggy. However the $88 Jamon appetizer was the biggest rip off I have had in a restaurant in a long time. After all, when you order an $88 appetizer, you expect something exceptional...when it arrived, we all laughed in unison. It was shockingly unimpressive. We have no problem paying, but you want to get what you pay for...
It was a great night due to the group we had, but it would have been even better if the restaurant lived up to expectations. With a plethora of new tapas places opening up in Rio, we would be back here any time soon.
