The hotel is great. Rio lacks a good portfolio of hotels and this one makes up for it.
Design is great
Rooms arent large but have everything you need at top quality standards.
Service is amiable and the staff make every effort to please.
Towels are large
Bedsheets are high quality and new
Bed quality is great.

Downfalls are:
Extremely expensive, like everything else in brazil. Food is overpriced, despite being high quality.
At usd700-1000 per night, internet should be free
Beach service is more like rio less like caribbean
Rooms arent big but this is rio and life is outside.

Room Tip: Breakfast around the corner is great. The pool is a great place for adults Room with view are much more expensive but if this is a one in a lifetime trip, its worth it

to you, oh Fasano.....i'd almost love to say i disliked it....but if i did, it would be the same as disliking a fabulous young and beautiful socialite shopping up a storm on Madison avenue in the middle of the work week....you'd love to hate her, but....she simply fabulous. So is Fasano - best view, best location, best pool, best crowd, spectacular restaurant, fun nightclub.....there is only one hotel like that in Rio. Yes, people can argue that Copacabana Palace is lovely (and it is, in its own way) but it has a different charm, location, feel. Of course its ridiculously overpriced and the service is incredible slow, but what can you do? No other place, so far, could measure up. So grab caipovodka com maracuja, glance at the envious onlookers and enjoy the most spectacular sunset in Rio.....i am sure you'll come back for another visit!

The hotel is well located, clean and the staff is very helpful. The hotel has an odd shape, kind of like the inside of an upscale cruise ship. The rooms are small, as is the hotel itself. The rooftop pool is spectacular. The beach in front of the hotel is small and there is not much around the hotel. Ipanema is basically a stretch of condos behind plexiglass with guards and machine guns. If you are looking for restaurants facing the beach, you will be disappointed. The rooms and hotel are really too small to merit the outrageous room price.

Room Tip: Balcony on a hire floor to avoid noise from street.

We stayed 3 nights in early August. The staff was friendly and professional but did not exceed the quality of service we got in the Pousadas we stayed in at Parati or Trancoso. As there was a lot of good press about this hotel, I expected a lot more. We can't help but compare the hotel to the trendy boutique hotels of Hong Kong, London or Shanghai where guests can get espresso machines and ipod docks in their rooms. The rooms are quite small and one could hear sounds from next door. Rooms were not cleaned thoroughly especially corners of the room and bathroom walls and floor. The design of the bathroom allows the shower area to be seen from the bedroom through a clear glass (this seems to be a trend for hotels built around 2005 all over the world which is not popular with some guests including myself). We could not get the blinds of the bathroom to close but the staff made it possible to fix the problem immediately.

The staff tried really hard to make our stay comfortable; there was a leak in our room from the air-conditioning and this was immediately addressed.

Breakfast was superb and service was excellent in the restaurant. The hotel also has a great bar which sometimes features top musical artists. We were fortunate to enjoy an evening of Jazz at the bar and guests were not charged for entrance to this event.

The best feature of this hotel is the rooftop pool and restaurant. Great to lounge any time of the day and watch people. Very good service and great view of the city and the mountains.

Location is perfect for those who want to frequent the many restaurants, cafes and bars in the Ipanema area -- safe place to walk to even late at night.

Room Tip: ask for rooms facing the beach on a high floor.

Hotel Fasano is located in the best point of Ipanema: close to Arpoador. The rooftop pool is amazing, with a wonderful view of the ocean. It's a nice way to relax if you don't feel like going to the beach. Staff is very good and service is almost spotless.

My room was not so large, but I've found the space adequate. The bed was really comfy, quiet AC, nice bathroom, and great shower. Lacks a bathtub.

Now the downsides: hallways and rooms (except for the rooms facing the beach) are very dark. No free internet -- actually, wifi is outrageously expensive for a hotel that charges so high rates.

Fasano is definitely very nice, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Anyway, if you want to splurge, go for it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea are sunny, back rooms are too dark
