New hotel, clean, nice rooms (we had the cheapest non-ocean view) which were a good size. Lovely pool with amazing views and the pool side staff were more than helpful. Cocktails though were more expensive than in the hotel bar downstairs, better to get them at the beach.
Had some problems with service - a couple of items in our room were broken and we had to hassle the staff to fix them. This was not up to 5* standard at all. Conceirge and door staff were very helpful.
Didn't eat at the restaurant so cannot comment.
Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and our only complaints were based on the fact that it was a luxury hotel and should have performed better. I would recommend staying here.

I stayed at the Fasano for two nights during Thanksgiving. It is a great hotel. Very smart with comfortable rooms, designed by Philippe Starck. I was upgraded to a suite on the second floor with an excellent view over the hip Ipanema beach. The roof terrace with its pool is a must to hang out at. A beatiful view to remember! The Fasano Seafood restaurant is excellent. However, it is quite tricky to get a reservation. Either you have to make a reservation well in advance or you have to wait until 10.30 pm when it starts to open up. The London Bar is very popular and you can bump into some of the most gorgeous Brazilian models, also well known at in places on Manhattan! The service is perfectly OK despite the fact that the hotel has only been open for 4-5 months.

Forget Copacabana, Ipanema is the place to stay in Rio and the new Fasano is the place to stay in Ipanema.
Designed by the top Philip Starck the hotel is a tribute for the bossa nova's years. The golden years of the music and design in Brasil: late 50's.
In front of ipanema beach, the views are fantastic and the swiming pool deck on the top floor is a master piece of design. Its look like you are in the middle of the ocean because you cant see the sands and the street.
Its a little boutique five star hotel, but its very new, just one month, and the service can be better.
Londra, the Fasano bar, its now the place in Rio to see and be seeing. So lets get early. When i went to the little bar, Calvin Klein, Mario testino and Gisele Bundchen were there.
The Restaurant is fantastic too but very expensive. The chef was from italy best restaurant Enoteca Pinchiorri in florence, so be prepare to pay high to the best see food in Rio.
The owners of the hotel have another two restaurants in Rio: Gero and Forneria. In ipanema too. the first is a fantastic italian food restaurant, very trend too, and the second its a place to go after the beach to eat a panini or a pizza.
So, in the hotel beware: you have to ask for a room with the beach view. If not you can get one with a brick wall view

I have stayed at the Sao Paulo Fasano twice and as a consequence had high expectations of the new Rio Fasano where I stayed for 8 nights in September. First the location. It is excellent on the Copacabana end of Ipanema across the road from the beach. I booked an ocean view room which had a lovely outlook over the beach. I could lie on my bed and see the waves rolling in. Beware that rooms that are not designated "ocean view" would look out on to a wall with no outlook what so ever. The rooms themselves are nicely furnished. The pool area is excellent with a fabulous view. The pool itself is medium sized bigger than the average Rio hotel bird bath. The service in the pool area is very good. The gym was on this level and was above average. The service at the Sao Paulo Fasano is the very model of smooth perfection. The service here overall fell short of the Sao Paulo standard but I attribute this to initial teething problems bearing in mind the hotel was only about a month old. The place was very expensive and in reality was overpriced but when you consider the almost total lack of competion in Rio what can you say? The standard of hotel accomodation in Rio is abysmal.I might add that I have priced the Fasano at different periods in 2008 and from a variety of wholesalers and the tariffs are going up substantially. The Copacabana Palace is the only possible alternative but the comments on this forum from people on this forum who have been allocated unrenovated rooms at the Copa Palace have got to be read to be believed. In summary a mixed experience considering the price but I am more positive than the other contributors. One final comment. One reviewer stated that walking around at night in Rio was "safe". I was robbed at knifepoint by 3 thugs on my first visit to Rio just over 2 years ago, in Copacabana on the main street across the road from the beach at 6:30pm when it was barely dark and with a group of about 8 locals just standing watching completely ignoring my screams for help. Rio is many things but safe after dark it is not.

Nice location on Ipanema beach, trendy new york boutique hotel styling, with an impressive rooftop pool area. This has the makings of a very good hotel and the rates suggest it should be. However, the level of service, especially the concierge sevice, were more befitting of a hostel and at that a bad one since no concierge service would have been better than the comedy of errors we enjoyed. These included telling us the wrong start time for a football match (4 hours out and only telling us once we´d waited in our room for the pick-up call as instructed for 45 mins and gone downstairs to enquire), refusing to recommend a restaurant on a Sunday night since "90% of the city is closed on sundays" (not true by the way), refusing to recommend a samba club in Lapa on a Monday night because "Lapa is closed on Mondays" (not true - some places are open and we found a fantastic little place - thanks to the guide book) and confirming our flights and telling us an incorrect earlier departure time (coupled with the obligatory delays, necessitating an even longer stay at the airport). Also, this is a new hotel and hopefully time will teach them but when the sun comes out the 15-20 sunbeds they have provided quickly fill (mostly with towels the owners have long forgotten) and it is hard to find a seat. And, be prepared to wait 30 mins in the bar before anyone comes to take your order. Very good breakfasts and nice rooms with good air conditioning / bathrooms and truly outstanding showers though. Food on the rooftop is also excellent. If they iron out some of the service issues there is a chance they start to justify their rates.
