Ace Backpackers Youth Hostels

It´s in Botafoga, right in the middle between Sugar Loaf (Pao de Acucar, you can walk to the station) and the Corcovadeo (Christ Statue). Metro station is just 2 minutes walk away and takes you to any place in the city and to Copacabana in a few minutes. More than 20 Busses run just 2 minutes from the hostel.

It has a good international crowd and a small bar in the hostal.

The rooms are small, but ok. Don´t expect miracles for this price. More than enough showes.

Breakfast is rather limited. Unfortunately no fruits or fresh juices served, but there is a fruit store just around the corner and a supermarket ca. 500m away.

Good kitchen with plenty of pans.

Free wireless. PC available, but slow. Better go to an internet cafe close by if you dont have a laptop with you.

Rio is just great!

Great hostel very secure staff more then helpfull, great place to meet people if you are a solo traveller. Metro station right beside it. Very cosy relaxing place charming. If you plan on staying there I would ask to be put in a room upstairs not on the main floor as we were in the Copa room and the TV lobby area is right beside it or I shud say the dorm was in the reception/lobby/ kitchen area so the noise level was a bit annoying late at night especially if you planned on getting an early night and not a good sleeper. Other then this I would highly recommend this hotel in Botofogo.

the hostel had some mnix up on the night we arrived and we got put into seperate rooms with more bedsw than we should have, but they were very good about it and the next morning upgraded us to a private room, with only two other travellers. this meant we got a private bathroom and all day a/c with out this upgrade the rooms were cramped and too hot and sticky.
Breakfast is good, with toasties although the internet is expensive and very .
one lady onn the desk is very helpful but the younger girls are terrible and unfriendly - no help at all!

This is one of the worst places I've stayed in ever! We stayed here during New Years Eve 2009, the place is expensive, small and has very very hot rooms. We paid extra for a private twin room with air conditioning but the air con was no existent as the hot air from the system blew straight back into the room making it hotter than a sauna in a 2 x 2 foot room. The bathroom if you can call it that was tiny and dirty - you actually had to sit on the toilet sideways or put your feet up the wall as there was no space to move. The room actually smelt of urine and the pillows were made out of concrete, it was like staying in a dungeon. If it was not for the extraordinary amount of money we paid prior to our arrival we would have never stayed here in a million years. If you have an enemy, buy them a room here, there is no positives i can conclude from my stay at Ace Backpackers apart from don't stay there. I would recommend staying in a favela rather than at this hostel.

Very good hostel, plenty of informations for who needs it but the staff Natalie or Natalia is terrible..she is very pretentious and wants to show out that she´s in charge. She screams a lot with people over there.
I stayed there for 3 days and she were very angry with travellers and guys that work at reception also.
I recommend it but she definetly need to behave as human being.

I had traveled alone to rio for a training of 2 weeks. I believe that I could complete the training only because of ace backpackers youth hostel. I had never experinced so cooperative and loving staff in my lifetime. Natalia,Yuko and Paula were so helpful. All the other staff gave me lots of love. I could cook my veg meals, make my favourite indian tea and use wifi absolutely free. The cakes for breakfast were delicious but the breakfast menu was repeatitive. The black boy has lot of scope for improvement. For a non portugese speaking travellar it is very essencial to stay in a place like this. the room was small but clean and comfortable. the location is good.

OK, good bang for your buck, but the rooms are tight with too many bunk beds in a small area. Our shower head was not working, and they changed it right away. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the cable which was out my entire stay. They said the cable signal was out and they were trying to get it fixed, but the dvd player worked. The staff could not be any friendlier, especially Bill. One block from the Botafogo station which was great. No elevator, but rooms are located on the second and third floor. There is no sign outside that lets you know the hostel is there. Instead, look for a sign for a church and some flags placed on the second floor balcony. The mattresses were good. Having a kitchen really helped me save money on food. They have lockers on the halls for your valuables, but bring your own lock. The breakfast was a pretty basic continental breakfast served as a buffet on top of the pool table: juice (1), bread, cheese, ham, butter, cookies, cereal, milk, coffee, tea, and herbal teas.
