Owner description: This is the first hill up on the way to Rio's famous Sugar Loaf. It offers it's own marvelous view from the top (215 meters) but its base is also a good place for hiking.

We actually spent more time on Morro da Urca than on Sugarloaf. It was an extremely hot day and it was much cooler with a refreshing breeze at the cafe on Morro da Urca. A lovely stop over on the way up to or down from Sugarloaf.

If you have to choose between the Cristo or the Morro da Urca (and Sugar loaf) - afterall it's quite expensive to do both - choose Morro da Urca. It's more spacious and you get the same fantastic view of the city!

My guide Daniel told me that this area is very disciplined, military schools are located here, Thank God for the kind cable car security guard who let us through after we got tickets coz it was just me and Daniel, the long line was terrible

Going to the Sugarloaf and taking the tramway is a must in Rio. The view is great and you can see the south side of Rio (Copacabana Beach) and the Guanabara Bay from the top of the mountain. If you're more adventourous you can climb using the trail and come down using the tramway

It is nice trail up to the Morro Urca. If you face praia Vermelha, take a left, there is entrance to the park. If you are not into hiking up, you can just take nice and peaceful walk almost around the morro de Urca and Sugarloaf. But if you prefer to hike up, then follow the path to the left. On the way you can see little monkeys and of course nice views. Quiet and relaxing..up are toilets and bars where to buy some snacks and drinks but with hot day you need to have your own water to get there first.
