The service is quit simple.
There are noise around and light enter through the window .
I taught they had suites but it is just a simple room with a private bedroom in the corridor.

Dear guest, we are really sorry that you didn't fully enjoy your stay. As we have two en suite rooms, one room with a private bathroom in the corridor (in front of it) plus two rooms that share the same bathroom, when we answer an enquiry, we always send not only the rooms available and their prices but also their descriptions as well as all services included. Probably you have wrongly chosen the room you booked. Also, with only a few rooms, the house is not noisy and offers the guests a homely and quiet atmosphere. However, as we are in a city, there's the daily neighbourhood noise. Regarding services and our breakfast, we are concious we offer much more than the average for the rates we charge.

We stayed at Vila CasaNova for about 6 nights and found it had both positives and negatives. The house is lovely with a great view of the Santa Teresa neighborhood hillside, including lovely gardens and pool. The daily breakfast was fresh and had a great selection - toast, spreads, jam, fresh ricotta, fruits, juice and cake. Zaba and Manu were friendly hosts. We stayed in the North Room which had a balcony & shared a bathroom/toilet with one other room - this was no problem as the bathroom is right next to the bedroom door & it was clean and modern although the door lock is a bit tricky - it does lock, just so good that sometimes I was locked in for a few minutes! The aircon in the room worked fine and we didn't find the area as loud as some other reviewers - it wasn't totally quiet but it wasn't intrusive either.

The room’s furnishing are very basic way - bed, bedside table, lamp and cupboard. We felt it could have done with a few more finishing touches - perhaps one more bedside table & lamp, and a mirror would have been nice. A rubbish bin also needs to be placed in the room! There was free wifi but often it was very very slow and kept dropping out - seemed to coincide with when the family was home and using their computer. The B&B has some Rio guide books for guests to use but little in the way of "what to do" flyers and maps - we thought this a little odd but quickly found that there's not much of this kind of information in Rio anywhere at all - even the tourist kiosk at Copacabana beach had little information and most was in Portuguese, so do your research before you arrive in Rio.

Lastly is the location - down a winding street in Santa Teresa. On the plus its a short walk from the main squares in the area, so its close to the tram and buses to centro and it has a nice view. However, apart from the local area taxi company, many drivers have trouble finding the location (from experience!) and don't like going there. At night you should definitely take a taxi there/back as its not safe to walk and even during the day it isn't great. On our last afternoon in town we were followed down the street by a person and it was only the fact of a clear warning from a concerned local who was driving by and told us to watch out (he obviously knew the kid was up to no good) and that we had just arrived at the hotel door that avoided anything happening. The B&B does employ a night-guard and we didn’t feel unsafe inside the walls of the B&B. Its true that in Rio you have be careful everywhere you go due to the high levels of petty crime, but the winding streets in Santa Teresa where you can't see who's around the next corner made us feel even more vulnerable than when in other areas of the city.

From what we heard from other travelers, the B&B is pretty good value for Rio when compared with prices for accommodation in the beach areas - on that basis we would recommend this B&B but with the advice to keep safety in mind all the time and seriously consider taking taxis as often as possible. Definitely don't wear jewelry (expensive or not), don’t carry your passport, and back up your photos from your camera each day so that if the worst happens you haven't lost all your cherished holiday snaps.

We loved staying at the Vila CasaNova! From the moment we arrived Zaba and Manu were wonderful. They were so inviting and helpful throughout our stay. They served a GREAT breakfast every morning with meats, local cheeses, fresh fruits, rolls, breads, homemade pastries, cereals, fresh juice, hot coffee, etc. It's the best we've experienced in Brazil thus far. The metro can be accessed by an easy 10-15 minute walk to Gloria, or catching the tram to Centro. We felt perfectly safe at the Vila.Great and free Wi-Fi. We can't say enough about the stay. We definitely recommend staying at the Vila CasaNova.

Nice, small and clean hotel with small swimmingpool in Santa Theresa - Rio de Janiero.
Good breakfast but every night at 2.30 AM the dogs in the neighbourhood begins to bark non-stop until 6.00 AM followed by the roosters from the neighbours.

Don´t book the airport transfer there - the want to have 90 Real herefore.
The Taxi costs for the same way 35 Real!

Hello there. Thank you for coming to stay with us and sorry for the dogs. Regarding the transfer, R$35 was the cost of the regular yellow cab that bring you back to the airport. However, when coming from the airport, taxis work with fixed prices based on the place you are going to. Our transfer costs around the price of a special taxi but with the advantage of having a person waiting for you even if your flight delays.

We feel fortunate to have discovered this little jewel in Santa Teresa! The owners, Manu and Zaba, were welcoming and helpful - gave us good advice about how to schedule the sights we wanted to see in the city. They loaned us maps and told us how to use public transportation so that we were able to get to the beaches (just walk down the hill and hop the Metro) and Christ the Redeemer (walk, then bus) without problem.

Their home is older, but lovingly maintained. The rooms are basic and comfortable, with windows that open to fresh air. Bathrooms are clean and have good showers (bring your own soap). The view is wonderful - looking out over the Centro region of the city. Walking up the hill gets you access to the trolley or several buses - but be careful - the neighborhood isn't safe after dark and we were once accosted by a man demanding money just a block or so from the pousada door (we had been well warned about this).

Breakfast consists of fresh-squeezed juice, coffee. teas, breads, cakes, sliced meats and cheeses as well as yogurt and fresh fruit - plentiful and good.

Our biggest surprise was the amount of "ambient noise" in the neighborhood - lots of dogs barking (during the night), roosters crowing (all the time), music from cafes around the area, airplane noise (thankfully the big ones don't fly at night), etc. - and while we weren't used to having so much noise, it is reasonable to expect it when one is living in such close proximity to others in an densely populated urban area. You might want ear plugs if you have trouble sleeping through the barking of what sounded like dozens of dogs.

The grounds, while compact, are lovely, and the swimming pool looked inviting despite the fact that it wasn't warm enough to swim.

Overall, we highly recommend this place, especially over the bland tourist high-rises down by the beaches. We came away from our few days in Rio feeling like we understand the city much better than we would have had we stayed in the "tourist section."

We stayed for a week in the large suite in the garden and recommend it highly. The two rooms in the suite are huge, with lots of big windows overlooking a little valley between hills in the charming Santa Teresa neighborhood. The owners, Manu and Zaba, are unfailingly helpful and knowledgeable and flexible--and very sweet. One small quibble--the breakfasts, while abundant, could be more varied. But overall we felt completely at home and well taken care of.

Since I first stayed there with friends I have gone back to this magnificent house several times. It is just wonderful. The tropical garden, the perfect swimming pool, charming decoration, peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views out over the centro are all marvellous. Zaba and Manu do not cease to take interest in their guests and embrace all those who pass through. The breakfast is perfect. The rooms are charming.

Don`t bother staying in one of the high rise hotels in the zona sul or near the beach, there is far more to rio than the beach. Still, the beach can take up to 1 hour on the 'general osorio' blue bus from lapa. If you want a perfectly relaxing time in rio, go to Vila Casanova, and plan plenty of day trips.

PS not good internet or business services.....but noone who comes here cares at all.
