I was EXTREMELY nervous visiting Rio de Janeiro as I heard so much negative press about it, but the copacabana/ipanema/leblon area really is quite safe and as with any city you don't flash any cash or valuables and be alert to your surroundings. I was relieved to find the hotel was in a great location just off the copacabana, near lots of great restaurants and backing on to another street that has all the main shops as well as the public buses that take people to Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf (trust me - take the public buses - they're a fraction of the price of the official tours and there's nothing different with the tours - in fact they share the same bus stops so you're only paying for the hotel pickup!)

The staff here were friendly, the breakfast good and the rooms clean. There were only two issues - one minor one in that there was no wi-fi in the room and only in the lobby/breakfast area. The lobby is pretty small so no chance of hanging round there whiling away an hour if you wanted to kill time! The second issue was that we saw bugs in our room a few times - when i first notified reception they sent a cleaner up IMMEDIATELY and sorted it but when i saw them a second time, i asked if we could move rooms and they obliged with no questions asked. I wouldn't let this put anyone off booking a room here as the new room was perfectly fine and it could have simply been that our first room was on the first floor and appeared to be located over the kitchen area, with our window overlooking where the rubbish would be stored. So in short, DO book this place...but ask for a room on one of the upper floors!

Room Tip: We were originally on first floor but got moved to third floor - this was perfect so just ask for an...

Really nice Hotel. No guests admitted as per all Windsor hotels per policy.
room a bit small and view... no much light.
Staff really useful. DO not take taxi from hotel...cheaper normal taxi...
Braekfast super...fruit really good.

This is a great hotel with great location, it is close to both Copacabana and Ipanema, with many restaurants around. The breakfeast is delicious, great variety. It is all very clean. However, the walls are thin and sometimes I heard people singing in the other room.

Room Tip: Some rooms have bathrooms with windows, others use forced ventilation.

Upon entering the deficiences are apparent. Side street entrance, small lobby, very small elevators, dormatory style room. Matri de is not friendly at breakfast room. No hello. They don't want you to eat the food. The eggs are not cooked and the sausage was like chewing rubber. Small plates and they clear the table before you are finished. There is a major construction site across the street and loud noises day and night. THE DOORMAN/SECURITY JUST MILL AROUND OUT FRONT AND IGNORE THE PATRONS. There is no computer/business center you can use. When I asked if there is one in the neighborhood they sent me to a closed photo shop. They were unapolegetic and talked portugese so that I could not understand. A tall lanky lady just butted in. When I left the doorman finally talks to me and writes 80 on his hand meaning that i can use his driver to take me to the airport at that rate. i said i will take a meter cab down the block and he says 70 so i take the ride.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Noisy street (people shouting in the middle of the night),smelly room (probably due to a sewage problem),poor breakfast (almost nothing healthy to eat) and cramped (too many people and rooms in a not enough space). Not recommended at all! Terrible value for your money.

We travelled to Rio in Sept 2012 as part of our South American circle and stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Great location, just a stones throw from Copacabana Beach. Staff were friendly but couldn't speak very good english so hard to communicate but not much different to the rest of SA. Breakfast was great nice variety. Close to restaurants & bars. I would defiantly stay at this hotel again. Only thing was WIFI not available in rooms so had to go down to reception area on ground floor

Located at the southern (Ipanema) end of Copacobana beach, the Windsor Martinique was perfectly located to enjoy the best of Copacobana and Ipanema (15 minutes walk away). The staff on the front reception were friendly and spoke good English, and the breakfast was the best that we experienced throughout our tour of South America with a wide variety of fruits, cooked foods and pastries.
Yep, you can not swing a cat around in the room because of its size, but it is clean, and has all bases covered with safe, TV and fridge. We didn't use the pool on top of the hotel, but there is a bar up there which is a great respite from the busy streets below - the hotel's wifi also works up there (as well as in the lobby as others have written). Our only complaint was the noise from the elevator and air conditioning system, but if you are looking to give Rio's nightlife a nudge, I suspect you will sleep right through.
All in all an enjoyable stay.
