“Must see in Rio”
Reviewed August 14, 2013 via mobile

This is a must-see in Rio. It is immense in size when up close. So beautiful against the backdrop of a partially cloudy sky. The view from up there is stunning (even more so than from Sugarloaf) and you may even spot a little monkey on the train ride through the jungle to get there.

“Must see in Rio”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

The iconic site in Rio de Janeiro with a magnificent view over the city. Make sure it is a (relatively) clear day.

“Extraordinary atmosphere and views....”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

One of two best-known mountains peaks in Rio but sometimes the shape and popularity can be mistakenly identified as Sugarloaf. Most of the mountain range behind the city and along the coastline are granite with that particular mound shape - including Corcovado.

It’s the perfect summit for the Christ the Redeemer statue that stands with outstretched arms embracing the entire city below. A scenic ride in the electrified rack railway helps thousands of daily tourists reach the top of Corcovado passing through the beautiful Tijuca Forest National Park.

No missing the railway cars, as there’re a bright red but as we found out it has a limited passenger capacity. The wait to get on one at the main station can take several hours – it runs year-round between 08:30 to 18:30. We took a 2-day Rio tour with a guide and he purchased tickets for the group ahead of time – the wait considering it was Carnival time wasn’t too long in the heat.

The summit of Corcovado and statue pedestal is reached by a hefty number of steps after the final stop - there’re some escalators or lifts for those who may need them. Once there it’s a ‘squeeze’ of visitors and forget getting a photo without everyone else in them! The atmosphere is extraordinary though and just about everyone looked at the views and the Redeemer in awe.

We loved it!

Enjoy your experience!

Amazing visit and probably the greatest memory from travelling the world. Very hectic and a few ignorant americans couldn't even ruin the visit. Wedding in the chapel at the summit was a surprise

“Go, even if you are scared of heights”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

I was terrified, but was so glad that I went!! The train ride up to the top is through woods and feels safe. Once at the top you will enjoy the sight because the stairs and viewing area are very sturdy.
