Lovely spot. 1 minute walk to the beach, very helpful staff. Great breakfast, nice spacious rooms. Stayed with family, everyone very pleased. Lots of buses, trains, taxis on the doorstep so easy access to other areas.

Room Tip: Free wifi in the lobby

We stayed here during Reveillon 2014 because it was the most economical and probably the best choice due to location. This hotel is only a 5 minute walk from Copacabana Beach and steps away from a strip of restaurants. The hotel itself is very average from what I could tell of surrounding lodging facilities. Staff at the front desk is very direct and that's about it. The restaurant staff was very friendly and helpful during breakfast.
The rooms were relatively clean and again, for the location - perfect if you don't intend to retreat in your room most of your days.
I would recommend to those traveling on a budget. Can't beat the location.

On another note - need a NICE beach? Venture to Buzios on a 1/2 day trip and visit the beaches there and in Cabo Frio. You will not regret if you love clear water and white sand.

Room Tip: choose to stay on one of the first few floors. the elevators are slow and busy. you will find yourse...

Not much to complain about. There is a nice view from the top of the hotel. Good wifi, very accessible and about 1 block from the beach. If you cannot find a place directly on the beach, this is the next best thing.

The staff at Mar Palace are all commendable. They were friendly and able to accommodate all our needs, and even got us two great seats to a Confederation cup game (Spain vs. Tahiti) last minute. The breakfast buffet is always something we looked forward to every morning, and at night if you're hungry, order in some Portugese pizza. Reserve your rooms early, as with this location at the prices they're posting at, vacancies won't last very long!

Room Tip: Get a room with a safe, and tip the cleaners well.

I stayed in the Mar Palace in March/April for several days. The hotel was chosen predominantly for it's location a stone's throw from the beach. The room was spacious and relatively clean, with a large bathroom with walk in shower.

The lift is incredibly slow and I often ended up giving up and walking down the stairs.

The breakfast is ok, coffee is not great which is surprising given Brazil is the largest producer of coffee in the world. Fresh fruit is nice, mainly papaya, pineapple, melon and non ripe mango.

WiFi only exists in the lobby, but is free of charge.

Reception service was fine, English is spoken and staff were relatively helpful.

The whole hotel price structure scenario in Rio is artificially high, consequently finding a good location is not hard, if you are prepared to pay. The Mar Palace as others have described, is in a very good location and it offers everything from beach, transport, restaurants, shops and bars.

The rooms were clean and quite spacious. The bathroom was large and water was not problem. A good shower.Lifts in the hotel(2) were good. A very good breakfast. The staff we encountered at the reception were both friendly and helpful and a good asset to the Mar Palace. The young lady Serena was outstanding in her customer service manner and helpful attitude. Well done.

I would say for the price we paid (through Hotels com) last minute it was both a good choice and value for money. I expect the hotel management know that refurbishment program must be addressed to maintain and improve the hotel. Reception area is good .

The area we found was safe. The metro (150m from hotel) was both convenient and easy to use and cheap.

Conclusion : Well worth the money we paid.

Room Tip: The higher the floor , the better chance you won't hear the traffic.

Convenient location, 2 blocks from Copacabana, on a busy street with many shops, stores, restaurants. The room was big, clean and reasonably quiet. The breakfast was good.
On the negative side: the hotel immediately faces a park, with homeless people sleeping in and around it. The staff was terrible at the front desk, especially the afternoon men. None seemed too happy to answer questions, give directions or suggestions; they could not care less. I stayed 4 nights, booked by Expedia. The "pool" on the roof is actually a little bigger than a jacuzzi!
