“Nice Staffs, Good Location”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

The hotel is very well designed, modern rooms and good value of money. The hotel's location is like 3-4 minutes walk to Copacabana Beach (2 blocks away), 5 minutes walk from Cardeal Arcoverde Metro Station, 1 minute walk from bus station, 5 Minutes walk to Tourist Information, 20 minutes from Bus Regional station, and around 20 minutes to Santos Dumont airport.
Furthermore, the staffs are very nice (giving us very early check in around 9 am) and friendly, as well as very helpful in terms of giving information about Rio de Janeiro
The breakfast is good, it serves basics american breakfast and traditional bread from Brazil.
The facilities is complete, it has gym, swimming pool, steam room and others.

Room Tip: You may choose high floor and deluxe room

The short of it: I would definitely recommend this hotel based on it's value for money, fairly modern rooms, good service, great breakfast, and good location. We were pleasantly suprised with all aspects.

The pros included: excellent breakfast (by South American standards). Full range of eggs, bacon, fruit, and so many pastries and cakes. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was good and fairly modern. We got upgraded which was great, and the room size was perfectly fine for two people. Maybe tight with four (it was a room with 2 queen beds). Great roof top pool and really well appointed gym with an awesome view. Comfy bed.

The cons: Aircon was very noisy (but contrary to other reviews we didn't notice that much noise from the street on level 9). The internet was shaky (but was WYD13 and probably running at max capacity). The shower could probably do with an upgrade but really it's fine. The room could have been a bit cleaner.

Location: positive was the proximity to the beach, only a 5 min walk about 4 blocks away. However, we found good restaurants hard to come by in the area. The hotel restaurant evening buffet was above average.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Copacabana beach (the corner rooms) on higher levels would have great views.

I could not have asked for more for a two day stay in Rio. Proximity to Copacabana beach was a plus. So was the pool on the roof on a warm night. The room itself was very clean and up to date. Breakfast was included in the cost of the room, and included a large selection. The only issue I had was noise from outside. Even on the 13th floor, street noise was pretty loud. Closing the window helped considerably, but not completely. I would recommend a stay at the hotel based on the hotel itself, but not on the street side.

Just two blocks away from the beach of the Lido, in Copacabana, this hotel is relatively modern, with large rooms, courteous staff, affordable rates (for Rio de Janeiro's pattern). There is a (small) pool and the breakfast (included in the room rate) is ok. So what´s the problem? In a word, noise. As a matter of fact, it´s the noisiest hotel I've stayed at, say, in the last 2 or 3 years. One could ear each and every arriving guest. Footsteps, slamming doors, adjacents rooms' tvs, and so on. It was impossible to sleep without earplugs. When I choose a hotel, sleep quality is the feature I valuethe most. And Royal Rio Palace was not up to my minimal expectations.

We spent a weekend here for the 2013 Confederation's cup Final game between Brazil and Spain. The hotel is just 2 blocks from the beach, and 2 blocks from the Subway station.
It was very convenient to enjoy the weekend in Copacabana and very convenient to go to Maracana stadium by subway.
Staff is friendly and always willing to help.
Rooms were very clean and had all basics, including an electronic safe. Internet is FREE, a major plus, not common in Brazil. But room was very very small, not a problem for us, but others might be surprised when checking in.
Restaurant food is ok, you will have better quality at restaurants near by. Breakfast has lots of options.
Not a cheap option, but compared to others in Rio, the price is very very competitive.

A good hotel in a good location. Very good breakfasts including good, hot food. For once the aircon worked well. The staff were very helpful and we had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were of a good size. The only negative point is that the swimming pool water was very dirty. I would not have wanted to swallow any!

It's hard to find a good deal on a hotel in Rio, so we ended up spending a couple of nights at the Royal Rio Palace Hotel. The rooms are pretty basic and functional. Beds were OK, but lacked mattress toppers which is hardly 4 star standard. The small pool was pleasant, but there are only 10 loungers so get up there early. Breakfast was good, but chaotic. There were never enough places laid out so it was a bit of a free for all to get a table, and the room itself was like a big school canteen. Our main complaint about the hotel was the rude reception staff when we checked in. We arrived exhausted after a long journey and were ignored for a while even though the receptionist wasn't serving anyone else. He then started to take our details and insisted we had only booked a double room rather than a triple. We had a print out of our booking which we showed him. He then answered the reception phone to take a booking, mid way through serving us. There was no acknowledgement that this isn't the done thing. After a few phone calls to colleagues he established that we had in fact booked a triple, and proceeded to speak to me at breakneck speed in Portuguese before dismissing us with our room key, even though we had been speaking in English earlier. My Portuguese is pretty good but my companions don't speak a word - which he knew - so we thought this was pretty odd. Checking in took 20 minutes in total when it should have taken 30 seconds. This place isn't particularly cheap, so we expected better.
