we took the metro from the orange line's 1st station Gen Osario which is in copacabana and got out through the candelaria exit for a day in centro to visit all the beautiful churches... this church was right opposite the metro exit and was so lovely... great carvings, silver chandeliers, lovely stained glass ... quite worth the visit

Candelaria is a beautiful neoclassic church in the middle of downtown. Take a look of its dome concluded in the XIX century.

This is worth a visit if you're really religious and temperatures are below 30 celsius. It is located right in the middle of downtown Rio, a working area, so it is pretty much a nightmare to visit. But very close to CCBB (centro cultural Banco do Brasil) and some nice little streets nearby.

The church near Prez Vargas and Rio Branco, is a beautiful historic landmark. A lot of carving has gone into the massive church doors. Inside the old-style church there are some beautifully carved and sculpted pieces. The staircase on both sides in dark brown - probably jacaranda-wood (bec it resembles the Confeitaria Colombo woodwork) is beautiful. Lovely stained glass windows as well. Nice ceiling.

This church is over 250 hundred years old and so big, that is usually chosen by celebrities for theis weddings. Beautiful inside, right at the end of the wide Presidente Vargas Ave. Must visit!
